Accom & Restaurant - Annecy
We are planning to overnight in Annecy before flying out of Geneva on 2 March 2007. Could someone recommend a hotel in Annecy, up to Euro200/night and a restaurant for dinner that night.
Also, has anyone been to Annecy in winter, what is it like?
Thank you in advance for your input.

We stayed at the ***Splendid Hotel on 4 quai E. Chappuis. tel 04 50 45 20 00. Rooms start at 118 euros and up. Front rooms face west=view of the lake and gardens of les Jardins de l'Europe/back rooms face east=view of the old town (mainly roof tops. Great service, large rooms, fantastic air-conditioning (needed it in September) so hopefully the heating is as wonderful in the winter. Excellent breakfast buffet, though pricey, but they also offer a less costly continental bkf--nice to have the option. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else, though others will recommend the Hotel Palais de l'Isle here on Fodor's.
Italian restaurant right next door to the Splendid that would be adequate if you absolutely didn't want to go out--It's a chain, Bistrot Roma?, but a good one. Though we didn't order any, the carpaccio was the definite choice of the clientele. Just a short walk along the canal, we highly recommend Le Petit Chalet for fondue and their desserts fait maison. Wonderful meal at Brasserie St-Maurice 7 r. College Chapuisien, built in 1675; dining room of stone and wood beams, though we ate out on the terrace. We were tempted by the Atelier Gourmand--very modern/hip look, food looked scrumptious, upscale, but we ran out of time, so never tried it.
If you do a search here on Fodor's for Annecy you will find other posts. Please let us know how your stay turns out!

Hotel du Nord is nice and clean, inexpensive and very convenient both to the train station and the old town. I would gladly stay there again.

We stayed at the Hotel de Palais de l'Isle in the old town in Sept.; it's in a super location on a pedestrian street, and that is great except when you're trying to unload your luggage, park car, etc. If I were to go again, I think I'd stay very near old town (such as at Splendid) but perhaps not in it for above reasons.
