?? about type of Florence hotels

In looking for a Florence hotel, should I look for hotels in the center if we want to walk to restaurants at night and if so, what would be the name of the areas I am looking at?

Do any have ac?

Thanks

Third time trying to post--Try Hotel Casci. My husband and I stayed there in May and loved it. Family-run. Near everything including train station and restaurants. Yes, lots have A/C. and there are a lot in the center. Florence's historic center is fairly small.

If you don't mind B&B's, try TOURIST HOUSE GHIBERTI, which is just behind the Duomo. This is a very central location for exploring much of Florence. TOURIST HOUSE GHIBERTI has AC, and its rooms ( only five rooms!) are equipped with every amenity from flat-screen TVS to individual computers! Will be there in a few weeks, and will post upon return. Good luck!

Many Florence hotels have AC. Popular areas are around the Duomo, Piazza Repubblica, Piazza Signoria and Uffizi, and I especially like Piazza Santa Croce.

Florence is a small city; it will be easy to stay in the center, once you check a couple of maps and orient yourself to where the major attractions are. Those same areas have good hotels and lots of restaurants. It is all easily walkable.

Many thanks for the information....re the B&B...it sounds good but I am not sure of the difference between a B&B and a hotel....at least in Europe..

Hi Lois,

I think that you and DH will want a hotel.

The Casci has gotten good reviews here.

Also check http://www.florenceby.com/davanzati/index.html

I stayed with my family at the Colomba Hotel it is a few minutes from the Duomo. Trip advisor has good reviews about this hoel it was recommended by Hotel Casci since they had no availability, it is right next to them the owners are lovely people and the rooms are great with air conditioning, breakfast was very good.

Another vote for Hotel Casci. Stayed there last September. I echo Vera's comments. Ask for discount if paying with cash.

Hotel Hermitage has gotten very good reviews as well. Very centrally located. Next to Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vechio Bridge.
