I always thought that the Michelin red guide was just coded with a decoder in 4 languages, no real written descriptions.

I believe there is an English version, since they also add comments like "known for their provencale seafood soup",etc...I have one at home and I'm almost sure its english

I don't think I've ever seen one in English (at least to France, I know they have other guides). The online website gives you only the symbols free or something like that, as I recall, but the complete descriptions are in French, in the book (and you used to be able to get them online for free, but they stopped that, as I recall). I haven't looked at it online in a while, but you used to be able to get both hotel and restaurant descriptions online for free.

Just because it's on Amazon doesn't mean it is in English, they sell some books in foreign languages on there. Perhaps I am missing it, but I don't see anything on Amazon's description or listing that says it is in English.

Loisco,

Do you know that you can also see the red guide listings on line at www.viamichelin.com?

From a google search...

Remember that each Red Guide is written in the language of the country for which it is intended (i.e. The Red Guide Paris is in French), BUT THE SYMBOLS ARE INTERNATIONAL AND EASY TO READ! Publish date: April 2006

Despite very limited language skills, I've used the Red Guides to both France and Italy with considerable gustatory success.
I love the city maps too; easy to read and understand.

I just looked at the website, as I haven't in a long time, and the restaurant descriptions seem to be in English now! At least part of them, one place I looked had half in English but the cuisine specialties in French still. But another had all the comments in English.

So maybe they have translated everything in the new France red Michelin (although I didn't see that on Amazon).

When you are on Amazon you can scroll down to the publishing details of the book..the 2006 edition says language: French. This 2007 one it says English!! I guess I will wait till it comes out...maybe they decided to do that one for all of us...or maybe it's a mistake.
