Aberystwyth Hotel
Any advice on Hotels in Aberystwyth? I found The Marine Hotel, and The Richmond Hotel and Quuens Bridge.....My husband and I will be traveling with my Mother who is 84, and can't do too many stairs, but we would like to have an ocean view if possible. Also any advice on a route from there to Bath and about how long a day by car?

We tried to stay in Aberystwyth a few weeks ago. Even though I am Welsh and live in Wales, this is an area I rarely explore. We were disappointed with the hotels in the town itself, but found a wonderful country hotel a few miles down the main road (south) called (I think) the Connagh. Perhaps someone could verify this. There is no sea views, but it is a most wonderful hotel.
One other place highly recommended (don't go by outside appearances) is the Harbour Master Hotel in Aberaeron (about 25-30 moles south of Aberystwyth). It is a tourist board 4 star hotel and had rave reviews in the Sunday Telegraph recently. The food, apparently, is outstanding. They can be found on www.harbour-master.com
The drive from Bath should take about 2 hours to Carmarthen and then another hour through Lampeter to Aberaeron.

My parents live in Cardigan and I agree with the suggestion of the Harbour Master Hotel. The food is excellent, in the restaurant, especially the Welsh Black beef and the fish and it has a very lively and welcoming atmosphere!
I stayed at the Marine Hotel and its nothing special but alsonot bad.

Thanks for the advice on Harbour Master. Apparently they have ground floor rooms available which would work well for my Mother. We will actually be driving South that day from Betws-y-Coed area, and had planned to cut thru to Llandrindod Wells and down thru Breacon...Abergavenny....to Bath. We would miss the Llandrindod Wells are if we go further south to Aberaeron...do we miss anything we shouldn't??

The hotel in Chancery outside Aberystwyth mentioned by AR is the Conrah.
The location of the Harboumasters in Aberaeron is lovely it is right on the harbour wall. I haven't been there since it changed hands although some years ago it used to be a favourite stop on the journey from north to south. I really like Aberaeron but hated it as a child because it was too sedate!

We have stayed at the Conrah Country House in Aberystwyth. Website is http://www.conrah.co.uk/.
Very nice country hotel - beautiful countryside of rolling hills, excellent restaurant. No ocean views however.
