We stayed in Roussillon last Fall and while it was lovely beyond words, it is quite small, nothing like St. Remy.
I would suggest as others have, Isle Sur La Sorgue, Lourmarin, Uzes. Another suggestion is Apt. Nice size and it's market is my favorite of all. Bottom line is that it's hard to go wrong with many of the villages as your base so long as you have a car.

Thanks again for the recommendations.
We have not committed yet (some health problems for the moment), but I think we've settled on: 2 night in Avignon (after TGVing from Paris), 1 week in Lourmarin, 1 week in St. Remy (again), and 2 nights in Puligny.

Also stayed in the apartment in Lourmarin last year. It was a wonderful spot and the owner was delightful to deal with. I felt like we became friends through our emails. The smaller apartment has a very steep staircase so if you have any climbing issues the other apartment might be better. And the market is great--I believe it is on Fridays.
Zoecat, I think we must have the same taste in apartments. I think you also stayed in the CorteTiepolo apartment in Venice we stayed in this past May (maybe you recommended it on the boards!)

Celiananne, I like your choice. Lourmarin's a great base, and far enough removed from St. Remy to give you a new area to explore in short trips. A week is a decent amount of time to get to know the area a bit.
A week in a familiar place can also be nice - you feel at home, in a way, as soon as you arrive, and I'm sure there are a week's worth of things you'd like to revisit, along with things you missed the last time.
