Thanks MissPrism! I had heard the term but couldn't for the life of me remember it.
Suffolk is definitely on the list to have a longer look around.
I know parts of Essex, round Braintree and Colchester quite well as I spent a few summers with an aunt in a small village in that area, but have never really explored north of there. We did a WI coach trip to Lavenham when I was staying with my aunt. They all went into a pub there for a drink. I was under age at the time, but my (Methodist!!!) aunt lied about my age, so that was my first time in a pub. I only have vague memories of the village which is why we diverted there on the way south. It didn't disappoint, apart from teh filming going on.
Never mind - next time .

"We intended to go back teh following day to see the rest of Bletchley Park, but the sun was shining, and it was warm, and it seemed a shame to spend a precious sunny day in a museum, so we didn't go back. Having read rickmavs report I'm glad we saved our money".
May I ask, which report was that that described Bletchly Park in more detail and what was wrong?

I also missed the report first time around. Glad to see it! Ely Cathedral is I think my favorite cathedral in England(but I've only seen about 20 of them). The last time I was there, there was a tour up to the top under the roof. We were climbing among tie rods and crawling our way along. I was the only American on the tour, and the fellow leading the way said very few Yanks came this way and wondered what had led me there.
I too like Cambridge over Oxford, alhough I found both fascinating.
Thanks for sharing! Any pictures to share?
