On a recent trip to Italy I sat next to a lovely woman who had been in NY/Brooklyn with a group from her town just outside of Salerno to dedicate a memorial in memory of four people from their town who had been killed on 9/11. She spoke very good english and introduced me to some of the folks in her group. She was so warm and friendly and gave me her address and phone number and said if I was going to be in Salerno to give her a call and she would show me around her town for the day. Made the trip from NY to Rome go very fast. Thanks Agnes.

Barb: could you give her name and address to "goatface". He's looking for an Italian liason.

Re:Rich's story reminds us that what is IMPORTANT IS -NOT WHAT WE HAVE, BUT WHAT WE HAVE GIVEN AWAY- our time, our selves and our possessions!

I came across this thread and it reminded me of a memorable seatmate I had on a domestic flight from Atlanta to San Francisco. It's not that this person was interesting or famous, but that she talked constantly to me for the entire 5 hours of this flight. And I could not change seats. That's one seatmate I will never forget.

After reading this thread you guys got my thinking about my most memorable seatmates and oddly enough, the top two were on the same trip: Flying out to Seattle from Washington D.C. I got bumped up to First (I was a Pan Am employee and NW was nice enough to put me up there. Probably because I was wearing a coat and tie). I was put next to a distinguished older guy who looked familiar. Somehow I finally figured out who it was: Senator "Scoop" Jackson. A super nice, funny guy. We talked about sports, the pompous jerks in Washington and women. After saying goodbye, we went our separate ways. As I was leaving the airport with my sister, Scoop came by one last time and introduced himself to her.

On the flight back I was put in First again. This time the rest of First Class was occupied by the Seattle Supersonics basketball team. I expected a fun bunch, but they were actually pretty boring. All I could get out of the guy next to me was that they always flew first class because of the leg room, not because they were multi-millionaires.
