Anyone looking for a phone to use in Europe should check out the prices for the Motorola T720 on eBay. The vendors don't seem to know that this is a quad-band phone*, so they're asking $15.

Make sure you are buying
Unlocked
GSM (AT&T/Cingular/Rogers or T-Mobile)
Dual-voltage charger

Then check out all the other Fodor's threads to decide which SIM to buy (this is the Subscriber ID Module that gets you a phone number and profile).

* I looked up the manual and spec sheet, and they both list European frequencies.

This is a dual band phone. There is probably the North American Version 850/1900 and the Eurasian version 900/1800. Here is info from phonescoop.

The spec sheet lists 2 GSM models.

Exacly! It's a dual band phone. There is the North Americam model and the Eurasian model.

I remain unconvinced. I will report back when I've tried one in Europe.

When I saw the 'A cell phone secret' I thought you had found out that you can make popcorn with your cellphone - (actually takes 4 cellphones) Most amazing thing I've ever seen.

Just for info. This thing is dual band, either 900/1800 or 850/1900, you can change between the two standards by flashing a different firmware (voids any warrany and may trash phone instantly).

It's the same concept as with L6, which is triband and can be converted to quadband by changing a few bytes in the eeprom. (No soldering or change of filters needed)

There are several non authorized softwares (illegal) that can do the trick.

So the answer would be:
Yes, you can , but only if you can.

Also just for information: the cell phone popcorn trick was staged...by a bluetooth software provider, imagine that!
