$66 train fare from Naples to Rome reasonable?

I know I should be able to figure this out on the trenitalia website but putting in my data...it always come up with No Solution for me. Perhaps it's a different train system?

Hi - Put in tomorrow's date and you will get prices on the Trenitalia website.

IC = € 19.50
ES = € 27.60
AV = € 36.00

Hope this helps ...

Steve

There is only one train system, run by the Italian state railway Ferrovie dello stato. Trenitalia is the marketing/brand name, but it's all the same thing.

I see standard AV fares € 36.10, and Amica fare (20% discount) at € 28.90.

ES or IC fares would be lower.

are you looking at a date more than 60 days from now? If so that is the problem you're encountering.

Second-class one-way, undiscounted fares between Rome and Naples range from a high of 39.80 Euros for the ultra-fast, non-stop AV trains, to a low of 10.50 Euros for the slow "regionale" ("R") trains, which stop at most local stations en-route, and do not offer seat reservations. Because there are SIX categories of trains between Rome and Naples (each with its own fare), travellers have lots of choices.

There are also advance-purchase promotional fares available for the AV, ES-Fast and ES trains, as well as the "AMICA" fare for the IC and ICN trains. The "R" trains do not have promotional fares. By taking an IC train between Rome and Naples, you can save up to 20 Euros per person each way, compared to the higher fares for the AV trains.
