6 days in Norway/Sweden

This will only be a 6-day trip but I am trying to make the best of it:

Day1: I am arriving in Stockholm late evening and staying there overnight.

Day 2: Walk around the city a bit in the morning and then take an afternoon train to Oslo. Anything sightseeing suggestions?

Day 3: Explore Oslo for a full day the following day. What are the can't miss sites there (other than museums)?

Day 4: Take a train to Bergen early in the morning. Explore Bergen for the rest of the day; perhaps climb Mount Ulriken.

Day 5: Day trip to see the fjords: Norway in a Nutshell package/glacier trip Fjærland.

Day 6: Morning/early afternoon in Bergen -- explore neighborhoods and art galleries. Evening train to Oslo.

Day 7: OSL-CPH-EWR

I don't particularly like all this travelling around with hardly a full day in each city. I would appreciate any suggestions on improving my itenary. Bergen is a must for me because of the fjords. I would like to spend more time there but not sure I can. The number of days on this trip is fixed, so are the entry and departure airports (STO and OSL). Thanks!

Me too...6 days Oslo/Stockholm...leaving 8/9 so if anyone has any suggestions....please don't postpone your reply!!! I am really interested in a fjord experience and my hubby wants to do some salmon fishing. We are on our own, flexable and cost isn't necessarily an issue.

In Oslo I was impressed the most by the Kon-Tiki Museum which contains the little raft that Thor Heyerdahl sailed out into the Pacific, and Ra II, the reed boat that he sailed across the Atlantic.

In Stockholm, do not miss the Vasa Ship Museum. We enjoyed Skansen, but it is much like the folk museum in Oslo. You could do just one. We enjoyed the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace and our tour of City Hall, site of the Nobel banquet. Just walking around Gamla Stan is nice. One morning sure isn't much time in Stockholm!

We did Norway in a Nutshell from Oslo to Bergen and spent 2 nights in Bergen; enjoyed having a full day there. We also took a bus from Bergen to Alesund which was breathtaking...all day but had 4 ferry rides and REALLY saw fjords! Alesund is charming too. Surprisingly, there are cheap flights on Braathens from Alesund to Oslo!! In Oslo, we especially liked the Viking Ship Museum, the Resistance Museum and their folk museum (it's hard to see a stave church otherwise).

To save time in your plans, instead of doing the train direct to Bergen and then a day trip to Fjords, consider doing the Norway in a Nutshell in two days. Go from Oslo to Flam or someplace like that to stay over night. You will be able to do all of the Fjord area things you want and end up with extra time in Bergen

I second the motions for the Vasa in Stockholm and the Viking in Oslo, but do not miss the Kon-Tiki.

Oslo: Vigelandsparken, Karl Johansgate, Aker Brygge, Akershus fortress and a boattrip to the islands in the fjord. If you have time: the river Akerselva, botanical garden, Holmenkollen. You can find more on my Oslopage; www.virtualtourist.com/m/18b41/3462a. Enjoy your trip!
