Hello,

I am planning for 5 days trip to Spain during new year (28th Dec 2010- 2nd Jan 2011). I am planning of first 2 days in Madrid and rest 3 days in Barcelona.
We are young couple travelling to Spain for the first time. Please suggest an Itinerary for 5 days.

5 days for BOTH Madrid and Barcelona during the New Year holiday!

I'd rethink this trip and choose Madrid OR Barcelona. 5 days is just enough to see just one of these cities.

agree with Cathy. If you choose one, you can make a day trip and see ( Toledo or Segovia or ...from Madrid)
Girona or Sitges.. or from Barcelona)

Yes you will rush !
But in Barcelona, you will have time to visit the Ciutat Vella, (historical center), visiting the Sagrada Famillia, the Boqueria market, and ... rest

5 days...stay in one or the other, not both. There are many day trips from either of those cities you can take as well (some mentioned above). To really experience any new city, you need some down time just to wander and explore. 2 or 3 days, doesn't really allow that.

Last fall we spent a week in Barcelona and LOVED it. We could have easily stayed for another week. We took 1 day trip to Gerona. Years ago we were in Madrid for about 3 1/2 days. From there we took a day trip to Toledo. Madrid is a very nice city as well, but I thought Barcelona was just amazing.
