4 days near St. Andrews

What should we NOT MISS in this area. We will have a car. Sights within a days drive? Great restaurants - friendly to teenagers? Thank you, Babs

A string of scenic fishing villages along the Grampian north coast from the mouth of the Spey eastward to the tip at Fraserburgh.

Near Gardenstown, at the foot of the cliff, is the gem called Crovie, where a well-known and popular film was made - "Local Hero".

You also have the picturesque castles: Craigievar, Crathes, Drum, Glamis, et al.

TuckH: you have sent them way up north. Those sites are no where near St Andrews.

Fletcher921: Some of the places within easy drives of St Andrews/Kilconquhar are:

the Fife fishing villages. The lovliest are Crail and Pittenweem plus Anstruther. all have really good casual seafood restaurants. In Anstruther is the Scottish fisheries museum. this is really interesting with model and full sized boats/ships, fisherman's cottage, etc. Also from Anstruther you can take a 1/2 day trip out to the Isle of May. it is a bird sanctuary with four lighthouses from 4 different centuries, and a ruind village. you will see sea mammals and puffins, eiderducks and many other species.

Also close by are Falkland Castle and its beautiful garden, Kellie Castle, Hill of Tarvit House (an Edwardian mansion and garden), Glamis Castle and many more. If you are spending one day in Edinburgh you won't have time to see much more than these places.

"Those sites are no where near St Andrews." - I should have added "except Glamis".

Glamis is about 40 miles from Kilconquhar.

Janis...mea culpa. Somehow I read "Aberdeen" for St Andrews. Sorry Fletch, that coast is probably 100 miles or so from St Andrews.

Be sure to eat fish & chips at the Anstruther Fish Bar in Anstruther--voted the best in Scotland for 2001 and 2002. It has an aqua-colored front with an ice cream cone sign. Yummy-yummy!
Pittenmeem nearby has some nice art and a picturesque harbor.
