4* Barcelona Hotels for Honeymoon
Hi there - looking for a nice 4* hotel in Barcelona for 4 nights of my honeymoon next spring. From research on this site and guidebooks, I have come up with the following options:
Hotel Colon
Hotel Condes de Barcelona
Hotel Avenida Palace
Hotel Inglaterra
Hotel Rivoli Ramblas
Hotel Regente

Basically, I want something "honeymoon-worthy" that is in a fun location (good restaurants, nightlife, close to major sights) won't break the bank (around 200E a night is ok), and I'd love to get people's thoughts on how the above hotels compare, or if there are others in this category I should be considering.

I have received confirmation of availability from all of the hotels listed, and they're all in the same general price range (altho several have not released 2003 prices yet), so now I just need to get some guidance from the Fodor's experts!

Thanks in advance...

The Colon and the Condes are very nice places, perfect for a honeymoon. Location-wise, I would prefer the Condes. The Colon is right next to the Cathedral (which makes it quite convenient), but I like the area of Passeig de Gracia (one of the classiest streets in the world, IMHO) where the Condes is. I don't know about the rest.

You may want to try checking fares for the Arts. You may be lucky and get a fare in your price range. It is a bit out of the way, but the hotel is spectacular.

Kristin,

I have not been to the Hotel Arts, but I believe their rooms start around EUR350.

I stayed -- with 5 other travelers -- at the Hotel Colon in Sept 2000. I believe we paid about $160/night (looks like doubles now start at EUR215, or roughly $195). Loved the location (across from the cathedral; nice outdoor bar/cafe looking at the cathedral; 5 minute walk to Las Ramblas), the rooms were very nice (good sized, modern, lots of wood, nice carpeting, nice bathrooms) and the price was right, as noted above.

One thing to check is to make sure you are not there during a major holiday where the cathedral area is a gathering place -- you would not sleep very well in that case!

Hapy travels.

John H

A sister hotel of Inglaterra is Hotel Majertic, a bit upscale from Inglaterra. On Passeig de Gracia, it's the best location in the city. At Xmas, we got 168 Euros per night.
Whatever you do, don't stay in another area, the walking in this area is the best!
