3 weeks in the med for 10 yr Aniversry

Hey everyone, it me again. My wife and I would like to go to the med for 3 weeks this coming April or May. I am just beginning the process of planning so I am looking for some directions. We are thinking about a 7 day med cruise and then 2 weeks on land. maybe through greece, Italy, Turkey, etc.

Questions:
1) what will the weather be like in April and May?

2) What the the "dont miss" places?

3) What do we need to know about the med compared to the rest of Europe?

4) Best places to fly in and out

5) Best cruise lines?

We have traveled Europe several times now so we have the ATM, trains, hotels, etc down. We are a younger couple, 30's, no kids, in good shape. We are not interested in any tours. We will use the train for the land portion.

Thanks!

I think you need to narrow the parameters of this one a little. Th weather will vary enormously between say, the Costa Brava and Cyprus (not to mention the non-European bits around the Meditteranean.

My don't miss will be different to yours. What do you like?

The Med IS the rest of Europe- Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croatia, and Greece. What are you comparing what with?

The best place to fly in and out of is whereever you're going and returning from.

..agree with Sheila...I really think you have to get guide books, amap, ?old national geographics ect..find something that really interests you..have you or your wife ever "dreamed" about going a pearticular place??after you have done the footwork, perhaps we can be of some help..that being said,I spent a "second honeymoon" on the greek Islands..we were away for 16days..but again, each of these islands were quite different but also unique..Turkey might be also a possibility with the greek islands...there are cruises that see a bit of everything..again check a site that list all the med cruises..could combine a 2 week cruise with one other venue..so so your homework and then dream.

Hi are,

I think you need to do some homework and come back with specific questions.

>...2 weeks on land. maybe through greece, Italy, Turkey, etc.<

I've heard that etc, can be very pleasant in late May.

Hi Areinert !
Best of Med could be combined Turkey & Greece. 1 Week Greek islands, 1 week private Gulet Cruise which is called Blue Voyage with Traditional Turkish wooden yachts and 1 week land combined with culturel expeditions.

Weather is usually mild but expect some rain in april, May is better for cruise. Ofcourse itinerary could be vise versa or Only Gulet cruise could combine Turkish waters plus Greek islands.Do not miss places for Turkey :Altough there are so many ;
istanbul and palaces & museums, Ephesus, Pamukkale, Lycian coast, Konya for Mevlana and Cappadocia just to narrow down.

Should you find interesting enough do not hesitate to contact...

Wish you all the best

Murat

Thanks for the thoughts. Its hard to go out and buy some many guide books when each have their own slant. Rick Steves books are good but he would have you sleep on trains and washing your cloths on a sink. To Go books are slanted towards back pack, etc.

I have always found the information from Fodors to be very help full. So, if I need to do more home work could you direct me to some good sources.

Thanks

Just go to "Destinations" here at fodors.com. You will find ample information on all the countries that you are thinking about without having to spend a cent.
