We favor the <b>Hotel Egmond</b> at the Minnewater..the most idyllic part of town, which includes the beautfully situated Begunage. It's a flat, ten-minute pleasant walk to center of town and Gros Markt. Tranquility is the key word here..the hotel is completely unattached to any other building, as it stands on it's own very large grounds, includng its gardens. I've had family and friends who have stayed at The Egmond based on my recommendations..all loved it. We have been back since.

Seconding the Cote Canal. Loved it. Wonderful, warm, hospitable hosts. We sat in the garden for breakfast and watched people on the other side of the canal take pictures of the house. Hard to leave!

I ended up reserving the Claire de Lune suite at Coté Canal. The web site photos and the tripadvisor reviews sold me. I'm staying for five nights so I can both enjoy the city and relax. And now off to practice some Vlaams.

A nice choice. Unlike some other cities, Bruges practically overflows with attractive, well-managed places to stay at a moderate budget. And Flemish style is my favourite type of interior design (visit a Flamant flagship store to get an idea).
The only very minor niggle I would have about Coté Canal is their Charpente suite -- too much Ikea for my taste (a Poang chair and Ikea loveseat) -- there's nothing wrong with either of those, we have a leather Poang chair in our library -- but I prefer not to have Ikea in my hotel room.

With 5 days in Brugge I would also consider day tripping to nearby Gent, a Brugge-like city but larger and not so dominated by tourists - lovely canals - great churches and a castle of the Counts of Flanders with a torture chamber in it. antwerp too would be an easy day trip from Bruges.

I "third" Cote Canal. On a canal. Nice breakfast. Lovely hostess. Very convenient location. WiFi. And, if you are interested, rent bikes and ride along the canal to Damm. It is a nice, level ride. Grab a sandwich at the Damm deli and eat along the canal on the ride home. A wonderful way to spend part of a day there. Enjoy. Jeff

Don't expect too much of your bike ride to Damme. It's a short 20 minute ride along the canal. Damme is a very small village with a few restaurants and an old church. That's about it.
If you want to make a longer bike ride (you have 5 days in Brugge, which is pretty long), do take a ride to the seaside. Knokke-Heist or Blankenberge (not Blakkenberge!) although the latter is my least favourite place at the Northsea. Knokke-Heist is 18 km, Blankenberge/Zeebrugge 15 km.

Have a good trip! We will be in Brugge for 3 days in a few weeks -- staying at Aragon House, affiliated with Aragon Hotel. Only know what I read on TripAdvisor so hope it's ok. Your choice sounds goodl We'll be overnight in Brussels on the weekend after that, but otherwise will probably day trip to Ghent or Antwerp.

Am at Aragon now and it's a good find. Excellent wifi, good breakfast buffet, coffee available in the pleasant lobby all day, close to center but fairly quiet. Interiors lovely and modern bathroom. They have both standard rooms and apartments.
