3 or 4-Star hotel in Brugge

I'm getting lost on Tripadvisor, When I find someplace I like, it either charges extra for breakfast or doesn't have WIFI in the room. Sometimes both!

I spent many hours yesterday there till my head starting spinning.

Anyone ever stay at a lovely 3- or 4-Star in Brugge with breakfast included, and WIFI free?
A canal view is a plus, but not necessary.

Thanks for any recommendations!

star level doesn't tell us much. What is your actual budget?

I personally think 'free wifi' isn't necessarily the issue, but the total cost. Is a €160 hotel w/ free wifi better than a €140 place that charges €10 a day for wifi?

Same w/ breakfast. A 'free' breakfast may be very expensive . . .

My highest rec for Bruges is the Number 11 B&B. Breakfast and free wifi included. It's a beautiful property and parts of it were featured in the hit (or hitman) movie "In Bruges". Doubles about 155 euros per night.

We stayed at the Hotel Botaniek 2-3 years ago. It's more B&B than hotel, so a little more homey (good or bad). I think it was 3 stars (but I'm not really sure what the means anymore, particularly in Europe). Very comfortable, delightful proprietor, convenient location, and breakfast included. I don't recall whether wifi was available.

PalenQ? Je parles francais et je sais bien que c'est Bruges en anglais. But I'm practicing Brugge because it's in Flanders. I spelled it the way I did out of linquistic respect.

janisj: do you have any specific recommendations, or just general comments?

FoFoBT--thanks for the listing--I will check it out right now.

We had a very nice room with a canal view at Côté Canal: www.bruges-bedandbreakfast.be/eng/. It also has a canalside garden as well as breakfast and free WiFi.

Thomas OK! No problemo! Enjoy Brugge, which of course means bridge, a lovely town I have spent many many weeks in off and on on business - not recently so cannot recommend a hotel but be sure to get off the beaten path and explore the ancient quays away from the hectic main square full of lace shops where many bussed in tourists many stay and never see the real beauty of Brugge, just to the north of the square. There are also nice walkways on the tops of the ancient ramparts that still encircle the ancient town center.

Stayed at Hotel Oud Huis De Peellaert. Free internet and free GREAT breakfast that includes bacon and eggs. Rated 4 star but as Bitter says not sure what that means anymore. I would DEFINETLY stay there again. Two minute walk to old Bruge.

Whoa!! I did ask your budget. I wasn't just flapping my gums. I don't usually make recommendations unless I know how much one is willing to pay. Sorta useless to suggest a place that is €100 more (or less for that matter) than you want to spend.

Unless your budget is a State secret . . .

As stated on your other post, we enjoyed our stay at Gallery Yasmine; Albina couldn't have been a nicer host. Breakfast, wi-fi, and she even made restaurant bookings and called a cab for us -- concierge services too! We'd stay again in a heart beat.

Yes, please chill, janisj, no offense was meant. If I'd had a specific budget in mind, I would have said it. I asked about ratings, breakfast, and WIFI. Those were salient. My budget is luckily flexible.

Thanks, indy_dad, TPaxe, and John for your suggestions. I will check them all out.

P.S. PalenQ, yes, my plan is to see as much of the town as I can outside of the center. And I may go to Damme, too.

It is popular to either hop a tour boat or bicycle out to Damme, the ancient port of Brugge before it silted up and the activity moved to nearby Antwerp, I understand - many folks are underwhelmed by Damme - just a few imposing old Flemish warehouses there on the canal - I love taking a train or even biking out to the coast - Knokke-Heise and Blakkenberge being two of the nicest old seaside resort towns on the North Sea coast - you can take a train to places like Zeebrugge or Oostende or Blakkenberge (I think) then hop about the only remaining of the legendary Vicinal interurban trams that still trundles all along the Belgian cost - Oostende, the Queen of the North Sea resorts is larger and also nice.

PalenQ. Really. Just warehouses? The web sites make it sound more interesting for a few hours. Square, Onze Lieve Vrouw, St. John's Hospital. But I'd look into Ooostende.

Thomas - it's been so long since I biked out to Damme that I cannot remember much about it - there may be more than I recall - but my statements about folks being underwhelmed reflect more things posted previously by others on Fodor's - Damme is so so close by bus or bike why not do it - the bike ride along the canal is nice too.

We just stayed at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh, in the town center, for 125 euro per night, including free wifi and a great full breakfast. Would totally recommend it!
