It was Mona Lott, not Mrs Mop. She said, " Can I do yer now, Sir?"

I reckon that show did more for morale than Churchill

>>>it rained 13 out of 15 days on our Germany trip in 2013<<<

We observe rapidly increasing numbers of tourists from Arabian countries and from Israel travelling to the Black Forest. They love it here, because

1. it is cold here (I mean, in summer),
2. it rains so often (13 out of 15 is a good ratio),
3. it is so green here (in fact, rain forest),
4. there are so many streams, waterfalls and lakes (no wonder).

Just a matter of perspective!

(On the other hand, a couple of years ago I was on a United Nations conference in the Palace of the League of Nations in Geneva. In a conference break, we enjoyed the sun on the lawn below the Palace. A participant from Africa wondered why we Northern Europeans went into the sun. He said "We avoid the sun." Our colleague from Scotland explained to him that, prior to the conference, he had not seen the sun for six weeks (it was in June) and therefore he enjoyed the warm sunshine in Geneva.)

I love this! Having spent a year at the University of Edinburgh many decades ago and traveling around much of the region, I can say I learned to live with the damp, grey and rainy days and grew to love Scotland. So many memories of traveling with rain-- yet so much beauty in it, too. Definitely adds to the mystical aura!

I remember being told that there are 2 seasons here - July and winter! What I generally found was that the weather changed constantly during the day -- with stretches of grey sky, brief periods of rain, and somehow, at 6pm, the sun would come out for 10 minutes, before getting cloudy and rainy again!

I remember a cool day with a scotch mist. An Indian visitor sighed that at home he dreamed of days like that.
Mind you, there have been several days in July and August when my heating has been on in the morning. I can't remember that happening before

I've been pretty lucky. On 8 trips to the UK and Ireland, I can only recall one with lots of rain. 23 days in Scotland, and it rained 21. However, that being said, usually it would rain maybe one hour, and then cloudy to sunny the rest of the day. There was only one or two days where it was mostly rainy all day.
