2 star in Rome

Has anyone stayed in the Hotel Milazzo in Rome? With the increase in the Euro our reach has exceeded our grasp, and we have to look at 2 star. At 115 Euro it still isnt cheap, but is it the best we can do? We are going in October, and we are 3 couples.

Thank you

Try the Domus Julia, it's a B&B and is well within your price range. It is connected to the Hotel Julia. We had a wonderful room with huge bathroom. They rent apartments too.

Hi, there used to be a two-star Hotel San Pietro just near the Vatican, but I don't know if it's still there. We thought it was dandy in the '70's. Anyone? J.

carolee,

Have been to Italy 3 times, most recent fall 2002, and the best stay was just off the Via Veneto "high rent" district. Try the Principessa Tea Hotel. We saw Rome by foot, each day a different direction and at the end of October, they even gave us November rates! And if you want to meet a great elderly Italian couple, do not miss the Ristorante Buongusto, a few doors down from the Principessa, great Italian home cooking at half the Veneto prices.

Don't stay at the Hotel Milazzo. The place is dump, the web site's photos are not accurate.

If each couple is getting their own room I would ask hotels for a discount. It's not a huge group, but 3 rooms could warrant a slight price cut.

Also, don't rule out bed & breakfasts!

How about Hotel Santa Maria in Trastavere. We got a very good price, its 3 star, good location for walking anywhere. They discount the price quoted, if you pay cash. We got 7% off.

I can suggest a decent 2 star hotel around termini area: HOTEL COROT near Hotel Milazzo. It is clean, not that expensive (it depends on the season though....) and within easy reach with the major attractions (the bus and train station is a few steps from it).

We stayed at the hotel Pomezia for 140E for 4 people in June. The hotel was better than a dump, it was clean and in a great location near the Campo de Fiori. Very close by was the hotel by the same name ( Campo de Fiori) slightly more expensive but it seemed a better quality.

requesting more information from Jengray who knows the Milazzo. How bad is it? Really appreciate more information. We had booked at Hotel Columbia, but I just cancelled that because of financial worries from some of our group! Maybe I shouldnt have cancelled? Please any info would be appreciated.

I have stayed and will stay again next month at Pensione Panda. Rooms are small but clean and priced under 100 euro. Its located perfectly on Via della Croce, a block or so from the Spanish Steps. They have a website.
