We have stayed in SG before and would disagree with peaceout. We thought it was a great place to stay. We left around 9am as the tourists were arriving then did day trips. On our return at 5ish the tour parties had gone and you were left with a beautiful, peaceful town.

We stayed in Florence and took a day trip to SG with a tour that also included a visit to a winery.
SG is a lovely town. If you can find the movie "Tea With Mussolini" and watch it before you go, think you will find the town even more interesting.
I guess I agree with PeaceOut - it is very small and I wouldn't stay there 2 nights. Would rather stay in Florence and do a day trip.

Thank you for your suggestions. Our thoughts were what markrosy said as this will be our base for the northern part of tuscany. We will be staying in Montipuciano for the previous 2 nights. Deffinetely want to see Volterra. Any other things to see in the area. Our thoughts were to see most of SG after the tourist leave and enjoy the evenings. So any suggestions for the nights and dinner???

Can't help with a place for dinner but I did a wine tasting here. They do have some food... I did a cheese tasting with my wine.

Also, ask if you can taste the house wine, it's very good! Bought a couple of bottles to take with me!

Hi DonnaCape,
We stayed two nights in San Gim last October and loved it. We stayed at http://www.casagiovanna.com/prezzi.htm . They have a very nice breakfast included. It is right on the main street but extremely quiet. Be sure to print out your confirmation and bring it as there was a little confusion but when we showed our confirmation they cleared it up immediately.
Yes, there were lots of people during the day but the early mornings and evenings were wonderful.
We ate at Vechie Murra both nights. We loved it. Wonderful food, very nice staff, very good prices. Definitely some of the best food on our three month trip.
Vechie Murra is a little tricky to find. It is located in the east/northeast section of San Gim on the outside wall. There are little signs along the way that say only Mura if I remember correctly. We were following them and stumbled upon it.
Have fun,
Michele
