I've received good advice here as my fiance and I plan our 2 week honeymoon on the Amalfi coast. We've been doing research on Capri and wow does it look gorgeous! We already have two aparments reserved for one week each in Ravello and Praiano. We were planning on doing a day trip to Capri but the more we see of it, the longer we want to stay. Do you think two nights is sufficient? Should we tack them on at the beginning (mid-September) or end (early October) of our trip?

We're thinking of staying at La Minerva, too. How early should we make our reservations? Any other suggestions for romantic hotels (our max is 300 euro a night).

Lastly, how many weeks in advance of our departure should we buy our plane tickets to get the best price? With my limited travel experience, I'm assuming it's about two months but I might be wrong.

I would stay 3 nights on Capri, which would give you 2 full days on Capri without traveling. Yes Capri is gorgeous. I would go there in September.

Start looking now. Airfare pricing is unpredictable.

Some people have said they don't much like Capri....but perhaps those are the "day trippers'. We were there for a day and found it lovely, but I understand it takes on a different magic in the evenings and early morning after the day people have gone.
It would be fun to be there for 2 days while on a honeymoon, I would think. Lots of beautiful walks and views.
Two days would be fine. You are going at a lovely time of year....but I think other travelers feel the same way, so it's never too early to make reservaions. They can always be cancelled, according to each hotel's policy.

Capri is wonderful and scenic but it is worth NO More than two nights. ONe night is really enough. If your time in Italy is short there is to much to see other places.

Just returned from the amalfi in october and stayed 3 nights on Capri; one night Capri two nights Anacapri. I highly recommend staying at least two nights! I agree with the other poster who referred to

who disliked Capri in posts. If you are a day tripper it can be overwelming and crowded. The evenings are the best time to stroll around. I would go back in a heart beat!!!! We really enjoyed Anacapri we stayed at the Ceasar Augustus an absolutely beautiful hotel and the service and staff memmorable.If you stay in Anacapri you can catch a mini bus every ten min. It's not a big deal that everyone makes about staying in Anacapri. Regarding your question on timing I would go earlier than later. The weather in October was excellent. We were their the first week in Oct. and then onto the Amalfi. You will have a blast. My wife and I stayed in Positano and day tripped everywhere. We rented vespas and what a way to see the coast.... We stayed at the Palazzo Murat in Positano and I would highly recommend the restaurant for a romantic meal.

I think 3 nights would be preferable, since part of one day will be spent getting there. I would look into the hotel reservations now,(Sept.-October is still busy in Capri) but don't be surprised if the hotel won't take reservations until after the 1st of the year.

As for airfares, there's no harm in looking now. Since you're going during the popular shoulder season, it's hard to say what airlines will charge. If you see something decent and are comfortable with it, I'd probably advise grabbing the fare while you can.

2 years ago, I paid $800 to fly from Seattle to Rome and I was told that was a good price. I suppose we should expect to pay a little more to fly to Naples?

You'll have to connect through Rome or another European city ( Dublin, London, Paris) to fly to Naples. There are no nonstops from the U.S.

Another alternative is taking the Eurostar from Rome to Naples. It's about a two hour train ride.
