2 nights at Salzburg - What to see?
We ( including 5 year old) will be staying 2 nights at NH hotel in June. Arriving Salzburg Main train station at 7 PM on Thursday and leaving for Vienna on Saturday 5 PM. I have not booked the Vienna ticket. Will there be any discount if I book now?
Can someone please suggest what we can see during this time?
Advance thanks for your help!

Children love the Nature Museum www.hausdernatur.at at the northeast end of the old town. Hellbrunn Palace with it's trick fountains is about 4 miles away (there is a bus.) You can pick up a 48 hour Salzburg card at the train station. It allows free admission to many places, and free local transportation. You get good discounts on lots of other things too. Love Salzburg. Have a great trip.

Lot to see in Salzburg depending upon your interests. We love Salzburg and have visited three times. Other folks say half a day is enough. Good concerts, good food and good sightseeing. Decide for yourself. Richard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/salzburg

"I'm sure the gardens are more than enough to see" ????
In Salzburg for 2 days and the gardens are it as far as sights go? Was that meant for another post?
Hohensalzburg, the fortress, should interest any visitor, especially a 5 year old. Use the audio guide. You could also make a quick trip to the salt mine at Hallein.

One of the things we really enjoyed in Salzburg was a bike ride along the river. Easy ride, lovely views; we rented two adult bikes but I imagine there are possibilities for a child to ride as well.
We also took a luge ride nearby but that was as part of a Sound of Music tour so not sure how to rig that unless someone here can offer a suggestion.
We also spent a couple of nights there and had a good time--as I recall there were some enjoyable outdoor markets and shops -- lots of sights and sounds!

A great website for info is http://www.salzburg.info/en/.
There are suggestions from this website for various stays in Salzburg. Here is the one for 48 hrs:

Having been to Salzburg numerous times, one of the things we enjoyed on our most recent trip was a ride up the Mönchsberg Lift for some amazing views over the city. You get a different perspective here than from the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which you can walk down to along some nice trails. There is also a terrace restaurant on top for some refreshment as well as the Museum of Modern Art.
