Hello, I am almost finished with my itinerary, but I have an extra two days in switzerland to work with. I am trying to decide on where to go during those days, and have come here for suggestions. I will be in Switerland at the time, it will be in early June (3rd and 5th.) Thank you very much.

Hello. It would help I think, if you gave us some idea of where you will be located for those two days. End of the trip? Where are you leaving from, Zurich? <BR> <BR>Anyway, there are many great locations, but I don't know if any are part of your current itinerary. There's Lucerne, Bern, Interlaken, the Jungfrau, etc., etc. <BR> <BR>Give more info and you will get some great ideas here.

Ok, here's some more info. Yes, it's the end of my trip, and unfortunately I am flying out of Frankfurt, Germany. Don't think of that though, it's only 4 hours on the train. At the time I will be in the bern/fribourg area, and have the option of going anywhere in that vicinity, and towards interlaken also. Here's what I have so far, Bern, Interlaken, Firbourg, Lucerne, that's it, right now. Thanks again. I don't like museums, and would like to see small towns, and the mountain areas.

How about the Appenzall (sp?) region? It's the eastern part of Switzerland and should make for easy connections into Frankfurt. They say this region is a very traditional Swiss region with cows, goats, etc. Very rural and pretty from what I hear. Have a good trip!

Hello, again: During one of our trips, we stayed in a very beautiful area just south of Lucerne in the Alps. We visited Grindelwald and stayed for two nights in a little inn at Engelburg, near to Titlis (peak at about 10,000 feet). It was a rural and picturesque region that was a photographers' dream. It was easy to reach and the people were very friendly. I don't recall the name of the inn, however. This area is Switzerland at it's best. <BR> <BR>If that doesn't work for you, since you are leaving from Frankfurt, you could spend two days along the middle Rhine at say, Assmanshausen. It is a beautiful region and just an hour from the airport. It may be a good choice.

Well, Lucern is wonderful -- you could easily spend two days there, at least one on the Lake steamer to Vitznau or further. But I would go to the Lauterbrunnen Valley. It is stunning. You could take the train to Murren or Wengen and get way up there -- even if it's just for one night. Fabulous. Or you could go to Grindelwald, where the views will make your heart stop. That whole area -- the Jungfrau Region is breathtakingly beautiful. Interlaken is a little busy for us -- too many tourists, too many cars and buses. We stayed in a lovely hotel in Spietz, on the Thunersee: Strandhotel Belvedere. It's a 4-star hotel, not cheap. But it's right on the lake and the views are wonderful. It's very quiet and the food is good, too. Not far from the train station. So many choices, so little time.

All great suggestions. My wife and I were in Switzerland again this past May/June and besides several days in the Berner Oberland, spent 2 days in village Blatten, Loetschental, an untouristed valley, at least by Americans. It was a very quiet, out of the way place with fantastic scenery, hiking, a welcoming hotel(Edelweiss)with great food and kind hosts. It`s only a little over an hour by train from Bern, on the main line to Milano. The Loetschental does have a website in German with the Hotel Edelweiss having an English option. I`ll be happy to answer quesions.
