2 bedroom apartment in 5th or 6th Paris
I have been searching through the forums and vrbo, and many of the agency sites all night, but still want to ask in case there are any new recent suggestions.
Travelling with my wife and our 1.5 year old son, (he can sleep with us, crib not needed)
Found this one which looks interesting...thoughts on the location?
http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p248679
Our main concern is cleanliness, we have never done the apartment rental thing and are a little nervous about being horrified by a filthy apartment.
We've also considered Le Marais (and may still go that route if there is something amazing) but I think we'd like to be in the 6th!
Would love any recent reviews.
Thank you

The apartment looks nice, it's fairly big by Paris standards. The location is also good - right in the middle of the 6th. Did you realise that it's a 'walk up' ie no lift. Not really a problem except that you will need to carry the baby and all his gear, stroller etc up several flights of stairs each day.
I don't think I've ever read a review on Fodor's of a filthy apartment in Paris. We booked a one bed apartment through parisbestlodge.com who are well regarded in other Fodor's reviews. Very clean and very helpful staff if you need assistance.

I stayed in this apartment - http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_148.htm - with my husband and daughter when she was the same age as your son (about a year and a half ago). We liked it. It was spacious, had two bedrooms and had an excellent location. It was very clean and comfortable. Not too elegantly decorated which was fine with us - less for the little one to break. There is an elevator up to the 4th floor and then you have to walk up a few steps. You can leave a stroller in the lobby. The best part is that it is right across from the Luxembourg Garden which was fantastic for a child that age. We spent a few hours every day there. It is also very convenient to shops for good food and quick snacks and has a washing machine/dryer and dishwasher. You can click on my name for my trip report and longer description of the apartment. Vacation in Paris is very easy to deal with as you'll see from its many mentions on the forum here.

You don't say when you are planning this trip. If in summer, I'd be concerned that some apartments on the upper floors, top floor especially, might be very hot. Even opening windows might not get enough air moving to overcome the hot air rising in the building.

nostrum,
Have you had a chance to look at the Paris apartment thread? There's lots of good information there.
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ent-thread.cfm
I'm puzzled why you want to be towards the South end of the Jardin. I think being North is more convenient, though that last apartment looks quite nice.
We have successfully rented from www.parisvacationapartments.com and www.parisianflat.com, and once tried to rent from parisbestlodge but had a conflict with dates (the communication with them was pleasant and prompt).

Maybe I meant to say North end? Was just thinking to be closer to the Seine for walking purposes/touring. So I believe I was confused and meant the North end.
I did go through the Paris apartment thread. I've been on vrbo all morning again as well and have been seeing so many beautiful apartment and I don't recall seeing any of them mentioned in the thread so was hoping to see if there were any other updates/new reviews
Any area preferences between cherche midi or the pantheon area, or the st. germain des pres church area?
Having such a hard time choosing.

The Seine is north of Luxembourg gardens. I'm sure lots of folks have preferences about those points, but it would be their personal taste, that's all. ALl of those locations are fine, except the St Germain des Pres church is a pretty busy square, I wouldn't want to be there myself, it's kind of a zoo. I wouldn't think you could really find any apartments right there (although I think Sartre did). Maybe you mean several blocks away, which would be okay.

And if you want to get even more addled, have a look at www.homeaway.com for their Paris listings - I find that their search is easier to use than vrbo.

ok, so the last apartment link i posted was south of the Jardin. Here some central narrowed down options. If anyone wants to take a look I'd love to know what you think! I did go through the homeaway options as well!
http://www.vrbo.com/92761 (off of cherche midi)
http://www.vrbo.com/206290
http://www.vrbo.com/165534 (this one is at the south end of the Jardin too far out we think?)
http://www.vrbo.com/124960 (odeon area unit, one of the more $$ units)
http://www.vrbo.com/239184 (Rue Jacob)
http://www.vrbo.com/90955 (off of Blvd Saint Germain--many positive reviews)
Ok, sorry for the long list, but I think that's the shortlist now! After tons of vrbo-ing.
My Mother in Law will be joining us for the Paris portion of our trip so we will be splitting the cost with her which should take some of the sting away from some of the pricey units.

Wow--I don't think you can go wrong with any of these.
I love the Rue Jacob location but it's on the 4th floor with no elevator--that might be a deterrent for you--and it doesn't seem to have a/c.
92761 is also a good location--it has a/c, washer and dryer (separate) and is large. I think it may be my preference.
165534 is right next to the Jardin, so a good location, doesn't look as though it's too far South.
206290 is also convenient as are the other two. 90955 is my least favorite--maybe because it doesn't seem as light as the others.
Someone may have more insight but otherwise I think you should just choose your favorite on appearance, location, and price. The amenities seem fairly consistent.
Knowing a bit more of your budget now, I would have recommended http://www.parisvacationapartments.c...ming-2-bedroom but I see from the calendar that it is completely booked in June.
Let us know what you finally choose. Good luck!

One of them refers to double glazed windows which would indicate that it's on a busy street - I'd avoid that one. The others look good and all the locations are fine. Rue du Cherche Midi is a great location as are all the others. No need to worry about being too far out.

Thanks for the feedback! The apartment that you suggested also looks lovely CW, it's on VRBO as well listing # 269580 it shows as available on vrbo, but I'm sure that they just haven't updated it yet.
I will email them however just to double check!

nostrum, have you used streetview on google maps to virtually walk down the streets where these apartments are located? I find it helpful to see how wide/narrow the streets are and what types of businesses are in the area.
Go to google maps, type in the address then use the "+" to zoom in on the area pinpointed. Drag the little yellow man to the site until his green circle touches the blue line near the pinpoint. Use the arrows on the streets to walk around the area. There is also a 360 degree feature. I just found the doorway of the 20 Rue Saint-Romain apartment and looked at the shops beside it and across the street. Quite fun.

Click on the double arrows on the top left of the picture to make it larger. Apologies, in advance, to the tinyurl police. ;-)
