1st time to Italy-help!
Hello fellow fodorites; my sister are traveling to Italy to connect with her daughter and friend. We have planned the following itinerary .. looking for feedback
Rome 4 days, go to Capri overnight, then Florence for 4 days with a day trip to Cinque T.
thoughts on staying over in Capri vs. Cinque T? We are debating. We fly into Rome and fly out of Florence. Also, any feedback on Hotel Italia in Rome? Lodging recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Travel all the way to Capri for one night and then go back north (and farther) to Florence? No! Skip Capri on this trip. Cinque Terre is much closer (and easier to reach) from Florence.
Hotel Italia in Rome gets generally good reviews on Tripadvisor.com. It's not in my favorite part of the city, but most reviewers seem to like its location.
Look at Tourist House Ghiberti in Florence. www.touristhouseghiberti.com

Marilyn,
When are you going?
No, definitely not worth it to go to Capri for 1 night! Far too much travel time involved. I was underwhelmed with Capri, although it was OK, and I wouldn't recommend going there unless you were spending a week on the Amalfi Coast.
Instead, I would do:
4 days Rome
3 days Cinque Terre
3 days Florence
Buon viaggio!

I agree with others who say the long trip to Capri doesn't make sense for just for one night. It is a beautiful spot (I was not underwhelmed by it) but the travel to and from would take too much time out of the trip

Here's another recommendation that you skip Capri. Just too much time getting there for one night. It looks like you have 9 days, so 4 days Rome, 2 Cinque Terre and 3 Florence.
Hotel Italia isn't in the greatest area. Try for something closer to the center, near Piazza Navona/Pantheon.
You'll get more useful recommendations if you tell us how much you want to spend per night.

Excellent feedback thank you all much. Couple answers, we are going April 17th thru the 28th. As for cost on lodging - there are 4 of us so somewhere around 45-60 a night per person?
thanks again,
Mare

Lodging recommendation for Florence -- Palazzo Ciompi, apartments rented through www.initaly.com. We stayed there this time last year and had a wonderful spacious apartment instead of a cramped hotel room. Additionally, being in an apartment where we could occasionally cooked helped keep costs down.
