# 13 on flights??

Flew Air France to Paris and on to Marseille and noticed that there were no # 13 seats. Anyone know if this is common for airliners or just a quirk?
Just one of those silly things you notice and wonder about!

I once worked in a building with no 13th floor - it went right from 12 to 14 - I wonder who they thought they were fooling?

I think the older buildings in NY do not have 13th floors!

In much of Asia, it is the number 4.

Hotels normally do not have a 13th floor.

This is due to the widespread human affliction known as triskaidekaphobia, fear of the number 13.

Virtually all airlines use Row 13, though I can't say specifically for Air France. Some seating configurations on some types of planes have large gaps in numbering between classes, but otherwise there seems to be no effort to avoid Row 13. You can confirm that for many airlines at seatguru.com.

Just returned to the UK from Canada in a row 13 seat. A nice, spacious exit row too - I bet even the superstitious wouldn't have minded swapping that time for a row 13.

Have to say that I've never noticed that but it wouldn't surprise me (I don't think that many hotels have room number 13s). As someone who goes out of her way to walk under ladders, I can't say that it would bother me to sit in Row 13 - I don't really think that should the plane plummet to the ground, only those passengers in Row 13 would die!!

I wonder, are there flight number 13s?

Yep, have seen row 13 on flights. Doesn't bother me, 13 has been a fairly average number for me, occasionally lucky.

But "who do they think they're fooling?" The folks on the 14th floor, from what I can tell.

It doesn't seem to matter for the tens of thousands of people who live and work in Paris' 13th Arrondissement, or those who ride Metro line 13.

BTW, no row 13s on all Continental Airlines planes. AA, UA, DL, NW, US all have them, but not CO.

I once heard a story of a guy bunji jumping of a skyscraper. The checked the floor they were on, multiplied that number by the heigth per floor, to be able to calculate the length of the rope and the guy smashed against the ground... because they didn't take into account there wasn't a 13th floor so the building was lower than calculated... don't know if it's true, but it makes a nice story at least ;-)

I do work on the 13th floor! But my previous office buildings did not have a 13th floor. I suppose it depends on who owns the building to decide this? But I never took notice of a #13 seat in the aircrafts I've flown in.

In Italy, it's row 17 which is eliminated.
