10D in Munich-> Suggestions for Itinery
Hi,
We're heading to Munich end of Jan for 10D. Will be in Munich for 1st 3 days due to business meetings and thereafter are free to head off. Have been to Salzburg, Austria the last time we went there.
Any suggestions where we should head to this time round. Will have to fly off from Munich at the end of the trip.
Hubby is a photography buff, so, and I'm a shopping addict. So, we need a balance itinerary.
Was thinking of heading to some concentration camps and so forth. Appreciate all inputs and assistance here.
Thank you.

Prague and Vienna would be naturals within easy train or bus rides away and Dachau in suburban Munich and Nurnberg for the most intact collection of Third Reich remains like Nazi Parade Grounds with the stadium and balcony Hitler from which he famously reviewed goose-stepping troops and stadiums, a museum/memorial to victims, etc.
For lots on trains check www.bahn.de/en - book cheap tickets to Prague online there; www.seat61.com - www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

For trips within Bavaria be sure to use the dirt-cheap Bavarian Ticket (Pass) which gives you unlimited use of trains and buses and urban transports for a whole day for about 30-35 euros for 2 people- buy it at stations - no need or reason to pre-book.

So your husband is doing nice snapshots of you with shopping bags in front of a crematory? Honestly a visit in a concentration camp requires some maturity and is maybe not the right thing for you.

Generally one doesn't "head to some concentration camps" like one might pop in at Legoland.
"...and I'm a shopping addict." That rules out Vienna, then. We have a few international high-end brands that can be found anywhere; no true department stores; mainstream brands that can be found anywhere; and many, many, expensive boutiques. Plus, Vienna shuts down on Saturdays after 1800 and on all day Sunday for shopping. I head to Prague when I need a shopping fix.

Dachau is easily visited while in Munich. We spent about half a day there this fall.
We spent 3 nights in Rothenburg odT and really enjoyed it. The Night Watchman Tour is excellent, and DD and I enjoyed the shopping. One store had wine and champagne, which of course made it even more fun

I visited several locations around Munich last time I was there for ten days, and it was a highlight of my stay. Pure Bavaria. Etal, Linderhof palace and Oberammergau are just 1 and 1/2 hour drive from Munich and can be visited in one afternoon since they are close to one another. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is just a few kilometers farther and I guess it is spectacular in January (I was there in August). I am also a photography buff (and video too). You may see my video "Beautiful Bavaria-Ettal, schloss Linderhof, Oberammergau Garmisch-Partenkirchen HD" on You Tube and decide:

All those places monty meantions are great as well as Herrenchiemsee - Ludwig's Bavarian Versailles on an island in a lake near Prien and all can easily be reached by train using the bargain Bavarian Pass bought locally.
