travelling from prague to munich
My wife and I are planning to be in Praque in June for 4 nights and 5 days. After that we are going to Munich.
We are still deciding what would be the best way to travel from Prague to Munich.
We are thinking of several option:
1. rent a car and take a slow drive. I think this option would be expensive as we will picking up and dropping the car off in different countries.
2. Train/ bus ride. I would imagine that overnight train ride may be easiest. How much approximately this option would costs and which website can I find out more about schedules, seating, etc.
How about couchettes or sleeper? are they a private compartment for 2 persons?
3. Air flight. I know there are many discount airlines in Europe. However this option may take too much time (going to airport/ fly/ waiting for luggage/ travel to downtown, etc).
Which way is more economic and easy. Any further websites I could check out??
Thanks so much!

Money is a concern? This is what I usually do. National tickets cost only a fraction of international tickets in the CR. A "carta Z" railpass can save you even more. Buy a "Carta Z" (about 3 Euros, photo needed) and a ticket to the Bavarian Border to either Eger (Cheb) or Böhmisch Einsenstein (Zelezna Ruda) (about 4 Euros). In Cheb (Eger in German. The birthplace of Wallenstein) you can visit the old town. Trains to Regenburg leave every hour. Böhmisch Eisenstein is not that interesting, but its an alternative. (Dont spend too much money at the casinos there). On the train to bavaria ask the conductor for a ticket to the next stop in Bavaria. If it has no conductor buy one from the machine. In Bavaria get a 22 Euro "Bayern Ticket" for 2-5 persons. If you buy it on the train there will be a (small) surcharge. Use this ticket to go to Munich. The area is far too beautiful to use a sleeper car. Total travel time will not differ much from faster trains.

Personally, I would do it by car, if I had the time. You could do it in one day of driving, but miss all the great places to see along the way. I don't know much about the charges for dropping off in a different city. I would go to autoeurope.com to check those rates. You could stop and see Chesky Krumlov, or Karlovy Vary in Czech.
We did the overnight train a few years ago. Had a "cabin" just for wife and I on the way from Munich to Prague. Was in a small compartment on the way back that could have held 6 people sleeping. Luckily, no one came in with us in our cabin. I would vastly prefer the cabin that was only us.
I don't know if it still happens this way, but when we crossed the border in the middle of the night, the Czech border agent pounded on everyone's door, shouting "passport". Had to rummage thru things to find it at about 1am. That was in year 2002.

Thank you all..
We decided to use the rail from Prague to Munich. We noticed that people recommended to go to Cesky Krumlov.
Is it possible to go by rail from Prague to Cesky Krumlov (CK) then onward to Munich. We are thinking staying overnight in CK. Do we have to go to Cheb to joing prague - munich rail route?
The cost for a direct rail route is not too bad (79 euro). We are more looking at convinience and time.
I do agree with ekellyga's post to drive. Maybe this is a good option if the rail method is too complicated/ costly.
Thank you again.
