Most of the cruise ship piers are in the same area, and the documents usually don't arrive until a couple of weeks before the cruise. That's no help to tabcourt now in trying to make reservations.
What I think tabcourt is looking for is a hotel in the vicinity of the cruise ship piers -- maybe a 5 minute cab ride away. I know there are some on the beach. Definitely don't want to stay near the airport as I can remember it was a ways from the piers.
I've never overnighted in San Juan, so I can't help you, but I'm sure someone out there can.
