Where to Stay in Boston Before & After HAL Cruise

We have never sailed out of Boston and are wondering where a good place to stay overnight on both ends would be. It would be nice to be able to get to the hotel easily from the airport and also from there to the HAL cruise port. We are thinking of taking the 14 day cruise to Quebec City and back that leaves Boston on May 31. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whatever hotel you choose rooms will be scarce as the colleges are all holding graduations and rooms and restaurants are crowded. I'd recommend y ou don't wait…somewhere in downtown Boston are many hotels..one little jewel is the Lenox right in Copley Square..make sure you take the Boston Duck tour. There is only one cruise port in Boston..in the newly renovated Southport area…very chic now..

You might want to ask over on the Cruise Critic Message boards. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=171 The boards are VERY active. Find your roll call and join in too.

I don't know about Boston, but last year we started our cruise in Ft. Lauderdale during spring break....OY VEY! We ended up booking our hotel though Holland America and got a very nice room near the port and it also included picking our luggage up and delivering it to the ship and a shuttle ride to the port. The hotel was a little pricey but when I checked on line verse HAL's price, HAL's price was the same and it included the shuttle. It worked so well last time we decided to do it again for our next cruise out of Seattle.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure The Lenox is nice, but we don't want to spend $400+ to sleep. All we're interested in on this trip is a nice clean place to sleep that's convenient to the airport and the ship. I'll check the Cruise Critic message boards. Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

There is nothing near the airport and the immediate area around cruise pier is only a bit better. If you are just sleeping and do not plan on seeing anything else, stay at the airport or use Priceline. Define "convenient" - as you will need to take a cab in any case. And sticker shock for Boston hotels is common here - it is one of the highest priced hotel cities in the country.

Park Plaza might be a reasonable compromise - while it gets mixed reviews it is a fine hotel for a night or 2 and within walking distance of restaurants and some sights. Cab fare from there to cruise should not be much.

The airport is on the other side of Boston Harbor - so you need to get over, under or on the Harbor to get to main part of Boston and cruise pier. Just be careful - do not book a hotel that calls itself Boston/Something (as in Boston/Waltham) - because of prices Boston hotels deceptively call themselves this when they are really miles from Boston or in more distant parts of Boston. Do not rely on promises of a shuttle into the city.

Hi Nanafischer, you will love Boston and your cruise as well. I live about an hour south of Boston and have assisted friends book hotels, etc.

As noted, Boston will be busy at that time so u need to book a hotel ASAP if you want to stay pre or post cruise.

The above link is for Embassy Suites at Logan Airport. I put in May 30th for date as I was guessing u would do a pre-cruise stay. Price is great for Boston stay. If u want to stay near airport then this would be a good option for you. They offer free shuttle pickup from the airport and complimentary breakfast as well. I think there is a shuttle to the port as well (u would have to pay but worth it). I would give them a call and ask those specific questions. If you are flying out of Boston after your cruise this would also be convenient for you. If you want to do some sightseeing then u would probably need to take a taxi to downtown area as hotel is not located near sightseeing venues. Not a big deal tho.

Hope this helps. As I noted, book ASAP so u will have a hotel. I can give u some other websites to check hotels also.

There is a water taxi that would take you to Black Falcon port also:
