I just found that the pre-cruise package hotel that we are assigned in Boston is the Four Points Logan by Sheraton and am quite concerned. We were to be at the Sheraton near Copley Square and thought we could walk a lot. Does anyone know much about this other one. Will it be really inconvenient? Other than the location, what is the hotel like? We would just do our own reservations somewhere else but this includes a terrific airfare so would save several hundred dollars if we use what they assigned.

It's appalling when the big chains name their hotels deceivingly like this. The Four Points Logan is not in Boston, but Revere, and is nearly six miles from Logan Airport. It's almost nine miles from Copley Square. Many Sheratons have shuttle service, so your best bet is to phone them directly and inquire about this. (Although, when we stayed at a Sheraton in Walnut Creek, CA, there was no shuttle service if the driver didn't show up for work, and no one seemed to care in the least.) Anyway, the nearest subway stop from the Four Points is over mile walk. You could taxi back and forth, still cheaper than paying another hotel room. Or, you could check your dates on Hotwire.com for Back Bay, then perhaps bid on Priceline.

Agree with Donna's outrage - there are numerous posts here about various hotels (often people trying to beat Boston's very high hotel rates) people have found, often with "Boston" included in their name somewhere but in places not conducive to a good vacation experience (Chelsea, Revere, Medford).

It is "possible" to get from many places Boston suburbs to downtown - and this also applies to places like East Boston, Dorchester, etc that are legally in Boston but not anywhere near downtown - but the hassle and time involved might ruin a trip.

If you are really saving hundreds of dollars, you might be able to spend some of that on a better location - many postings here in past weeks - try a search - often mentioned is Doubletree Boston

Agree with previous posters. It is an inconvenient location if you want to spend much time in Boston seeing the sights. Taxi fare into town would be at least $25 each way--if you don't hit traffic. And, traffic can be horrendous depending on time of day.

Thank you so much for all the information. We recieved a great deal on RT air from DFW ($49) with our cruise and will lose that if we just try to go early and book our own hotel. Afraid we will have to do that though. I know the cost of the taxi's, etc. may be more than covered but we just don't have that much time to waste.

Try booking hotel through Quikbook. We have had pretty good luck in the past with them- good luck!

We stayed at the Four Points Logan in Revere because it had a park-fly package that was convenient. We were able to spend the day in Boston by taking the free hotel shuttle to the T and using an all-day subway pass. It was fine.

The hotel was a disappointment, though, especially at the price. The area is shabby. The hotel is old and without charm. The help was rude.

The all-day subway pass costs $7 and a single subway fare is just $1, so before you buy the pass, make sure you'll get enough use out of it! There's also a weekly pass, costs $12.50 and good Sunday thru Saturday IIRC, that might be a good deal if you're in town for a few days.
