When to get best prices for Transatlantic Cruises?

Holland America has a transatlantic cruise on Oct 15 leaving from Rome to Fort Lauderdale...prices are incredibly cheap...it's a 27 night cruise and OceanView is $1799 and Balcony $2199. Great prices. I cannot do this cruise this year but would be interested in doing it next year.
I checked the schedule and for 2012 - very similar cruise on HA but for 29 days - also outside of Rome to Fort Lauderdale - prices are $4599 for OceanView and $6899 for Balcony - huge difference.
When do they usually reduce the price on these Transatlantic cruises?
Thanks
Pat

The bargain prices for this October are UNSOLD cabins.. you have no choice of location or cabin. You can take your chances for 2012 and shop around now (I did for a cruise a year in advance) and even at the lowest price before sailing I still had a better deal). Right now that price seems reasonable considering it's for 29 days and if the prices come down on the 2012 cruise you will get maybe an OBC or discount....

Thanks for your reply - as long as I take a balcony I really wouldn't care where it was for that type of savings - we are talking $10,000 per couple.

I will keep checking prices - I know it's early and I really wish I could have done it this year but already had plans that can't be changed. Appreciate your help

Best place for cruise price shopping is:

http://www.CruiseCompete.com

Here you pick your cruise, then get competing offers from different agencies. You can also read user reviews of the agencies before deciding where (or if) to book.
