What is a good hotel in Tampa?
We're cruising out of Tampa in March and have been to Tampa, but not to cruise. Would like something near to the port, restaurants, shopping, etc. We're flying in the night before so, a place to eat and something to do would also be nice. Also, whats the best way from the airport to the hotel? Thanks!

Your best bet would be one of the downtown hotels - probably new Marriott Waterside or Hyatt Regency Downtown - there is also a Wyndham on Harbour Island. They are only minutes from the port of Tampa. I would check to see if the hotel has a van or limo that would pick you up at the airport and take you to the port - or just take a taxi. The port of Tampa has a new area called Channelside, which is right where the cruise ship will leave from. There is a movie theater, restaurants, etc., and a trolley that will take you to Ybor City which is just 5 miles or so away with more shops and restaurants. Have fun.

The Hilton Bayside(there are 2 Hiltons) The one we stayed @ had fabulous sunset views over the water and an excellent Italian resteraunt on the top floor called Armani's. We spent a long weekend there dor our 20th wedding anniversary and daytripped to Fort Dasoto Park every day...BEAUTIFUL BEACH!!! Enjoy and Good luck.

Alexa:

We are leaving out of Tampa in 3 weeks for a cruise. We are staying at the Holiday Inn City Centre. It is in downtown near restaraunts, etc. and is only 1 mile from the port. Weeknight rate is only $79 plus tax. Take a look at it on Holidayinn.com

Lora, are you out there? I want to know how you liked the Holiday Inn City Centre. We are staying over one night after our cruise and I was going to book that hotel. I called and talked to the reservations desk at the hotel and asked if there were restaurants, shops, etc to walk to from the hotel. I was told that it is a business district and there is nothing to walk to, nothing to do. (Not very good salesmanship.) I find that hard to believe. If it is a business district, wouldn't there be restaurants? If any one else is familiar with this hotel or the downtown Tampa area, please help! We just booked this cruise last minute and leave in less than 3 weeks. You can email me direct at [email protected] or post here. Thanks.
