Travel Insurance
When booking a river cruise, is it preferable to get travel insurance with that company, or should insurance be with another company? I have read that insurance should be from another source, but would like your feedback.

I have been told by every travel agent I've worked with not to buy the insurance from the cruise line or tour company simply because if they unexpectedly declare bankruptcy, then there goes your travel insurance too.
Others may have different view points.
Look at www.insuremytrip.com for some comparisons. Or if you belong to USAA they offer insurance (which is where I usually go) and you might check AAA

Yes, third party insurance is prefered for the reason patadhank stated. Another one is cruise line insurance must be purchased with deposit or final payment, while most independent insurances can be purchased as late as 24 hours before sail. And you can shop and most of the times find a better price and better coverage.

patandhank, thanks for your referring me to AAA. I am a member and according to their brochure, their medial limit is $30,000 whereas Avalon has told me that the Czech Republic requires $50,000. I will check with AAA directly tomorrow!
