Transport from pier in Buenos Aires

We're ending a cruise in BsAs and staying there for several days. Are legitimate taxis available at the pier? What should we expect to pay from the pier to our hotel in Recoleta? Or should we arrange for a remis through our hotel?

We'd love to have you along! I know you enjoy cruises and this one should be a really good one.

Hello Giovanna! How exciting, I didn't know you two are going to take a cruise and also spend some days in BA. If you don't get a good answer here I would ask this question on the South America Forum as I am sure you will get some good help. I think that Scarlett who now lives in BA has said one should only use the Radio Taxis but again you can find out via the South America Forum. Best regards.

Hi Love. Hope you're feeling better and your foot is on the mend. I felt so bad for you that horrible day you had.

I also posted on TripAdvisor and got a reply right away. There will be trustworthy taxis there. Apparently the cruise pier is only 10-15 minutes away from Recoleta where we're staying, so should be inexpensive. We're thrilled that we got the same hotel we stayed in when we were there in 2005. We had hoped for the same room, but it is now smoking so we're going up one floor to hopefully an identical room.

We just arranged to join a group of people on the cruise for a tour/transport to Valparaiso (we sail from there) from Santiago (we're staying there for two nights) and taking the tour on the day we sail. We'll visit a winery, Vina and tour Valparaiso before the guide drops us off at the ship.

Nothing else planned yet, so I've got to get busy. We particularly want to see penguins and should have this opportunity at a couple of the ports we're visiting.

It's all very exciting and we're really looking forward to it.

Giovanna,

The ships typically are very near Jorge Newberry airport, from which flights to Iguazu leave frequently. If you haven't seen the falls, you might want to take a taxi to the airport, catch an early (since they will kick you off the ship by 9:30) flight there and spend the night before your time in BA. The cost would be about 1/3 that of letting the ship arrange the trip for you if you use an on-line or local agency.

Thanks for the advice, but we spent two nights in Puerto Iguazu and were awestruck by the falls when we visited Argentina four years ago. We have the same hotel reserved in Buenos Aires, so only need to find transportation there. I understand there will be many cabs at the pier, but we're hoping for one we can trust and not an exhorbitant charge for a short drive to Recoleta. I think we will probably call Radio Cab and have them send a taxi for us. Any thoughts about that?
