Here is chapter and verse on the confusion.

As it turns out the reports were misleading. Didn't happen.

Here is something from CDC. It is an "unknow" outbreak on a cruise between Jan 28- Feb 11 on the Celebrity Constellation.

http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/surv/out...stellation.htm

The 2012 outbreak listing also shown Crown Pricness, Celebrity Silhouette, P&O Aurora, and RCL Voyager of the Seas.

On the same CDC web site, the P&O Auroa scored 100 on their 02/01/2012 inspection and The Crown Princess scored 100 as well on their last inspection (11/19/2011).

I have to say that any on board outbreak has more to do with the passenegers than the crew. I would like to think that the crew are trained in proper hygiene and sanitation practies, as well as their job depends on it.

On the otehr hand, some passengers would have a good reason to hide their illness. If you plan your "dream" cruise vacation and you ended up a bit under the weather prior to boarding the ship, would you disclose it? (With the fear that they may not let you on board)

Contacting any type of illness is unavoidable, be it on a ship or at home or at work. If you have safe hygiene & sanitation practices, that's all you can do.

I have my flu shots every year, I still got the flu occassionally, probably less frequent (I hope) as I like to think I have build up my immunity.

If people decide not to take a cruise because of novovirus, oh well, that's their loss. More than likely, they will get their diarrhea anyway, from the most unsuspecting source.

Eschew,
I think you make a really good point. I think if your an avid travler you can ges the squirts from just about anywhere. Andrew Zimmern says that the one thing he avoids when traveling is not food, but water. So water that the locals can drink with no worries could give you the trots. I think it all goes with the territoty of traveling. And i think that your right about people hiding the fact that they are sick to salvage their dream vacation. I would.

Just common sense, I guess?
