Sydney pre-cruise hotel recommendations

Flying to Sydney the day before our cruise departs with my senior parents. I'm looking for a hotel to stay the day we arrive. Airport/cruise terminal shuttle would be a big plus. Not too pricey...

I have no idea what the exchange rate is or current prices but we enjoyed staying at the Intercontinental with an Opera House and harbor view. Later we stayed at the Park Hyatt which was noisey due to trains going over bridge above hotel.

There are no hotels in Sydney (in the city) that provide an airport shuttle, and I really doubt there are any hotels that provide a shuttle to the cruise terminal. But where does your cruise depart? There is more than one cruise-ship dock in Sydney. I suspect anything near Circular Quay would work, but not all cruise ships dock there.

There are two main cruise terminals in Sydney, and a third one for very large ships may have opened some distance away from the city, you might research that on cruise critic.

Ships that are not too large to pass under the Sydney Harbor Bridge usually end up in Darling Harbor.Larger ships usually are at Circular Quay.

The Marriott, Intercontinental and several other hotels are convenient to Circular Quay, and, I think, there is a Hyatt in Darling Harbor.

Taxi vans are available at all the hotels and the airport, so that you can easily travel together to and from the hotel. If you want to book a private van, I have had very good service from the heavily advertised Black Lane service in Europe and North and South America. They have a service in Sydney, but I don't know if large vans are available.

There are a number of shuttle services that do the Sydney city circuit, but if there are several of you it would probably be more cost effective and more direct to just have the hotel book you a taxi van when you arrive.

As others have said, you need to find out which cruise terminal your ship will leave from. Di

I think I'll jump in on this link, because we are also looking for hotel convenient to Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay for Jun 1st sailing of the Sun Princess.

Holiday Inn looks best positioned from the map, but not adverse to Marriott if that is just as convenient. We will probably be arriving too early for check-in, so a comfortable lobby may make the difference.

Holiday Inn is walking distance to the cruise terminal, even with a suitcase. If you get to the hotel before check-in, you can always leave your luggage at the hotel and have a wander around Sydney.

Last cruise out of Sydney, we stayed at the Holiday Inn. Fabulous views of the harbor from the rooftop pool area! Loved staying in the Rocks area. We walked with all of our luggage to the OPT at Circular Quay.

When we took our cruise to NZ from Sydney this past January we could not get any rooms near the harbor due to it being the New Years Eve period so we ended up at the Radisson Blu a few blocks away. Walking to the Circular Quay area took less than 10 minutes.
