Neither - Cinnamon Bay. Yes, some of the minivan cabs will take six.

Sylvia - I must confess that I've never been to St. Johns. I have been to St. Thomas six times in the last four years and have had the best intentions every time to take the ferry over but have never made it. All of the research I've done on the subject points to Cinnamon Bay. We love to snorkel and somewhere someone told me that off the right side of the beach at Cinnamon (as you're facing the water) is a shallow reef with perfect snorkeling. Trunk Bay is littered with cruise ship excursions from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Sapphire Beach is on St. Thomas and will have the same crowds to contend with. You have to work a little harder to get to Cinnamon, but it appears worth it.

Most of my recent problems with trying to get to St. Johns has to do with the INS clearing the ship in St. Thomas. The last two times, we haven't cleared the ship until after 9:00 and it was touch and go to get to Red Hook by 10:00. If you don't leave by 10:00, most of the day has already gone by and you won't have the quality time at St. Johns that you want.

If you can't get to St. Johns, go to Sapphire Beach. Most of the dive masters I have talked to like the snorkeling there. There is a resort there as well. And just about all the taxis in the USVI are vans which can often hold more than 6 people.

Sylvia - crowded, but good snorkeling - Sapphire or Coki Beach; not crowded, but good snorkeling - Secret Harbour.
