Northern Europe/Scandanavian Caps in August
We're sailing on the Norwegian Dream August 5th for a 12 night Scandanavian Capitals cruise. Wondering about weather and excursions, any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We did a similar trip a few years ago. It was hotter than normal and Stockholm, Helsinki, and St. Petersburg were warmer than usual. Pack a good waterproof jacket and you should be fine. (take a good umbrella as well). Do some homework and you should be able to schedule some of your own excursions and save time and money.

I can't help you with the weather portion of your question as we did this cruise in June. But as to the ports, I found almost all ports very easy to do on your own with a little advance reading of some tour books. You only have one day to see as much as possible so advance planning really helps.
Now St. Petersburg is a different story. Since I don't speak or read Russian there was no way I was going to get an individual visa for the 2 days there. I booked a 2 day tour with Red October and was very happy. I just told them what I wanted to see and they designed the 2 days around my choices.
I found good advice on the cruise critic web site in the Baltic board.

Loved the Baltics Cruise. I've heard that Red October is excellent (though never used them). Besides seeing the Hermitage Museum, don't miss the Folkloric show in the evening. So much talent and energy...one of the highlights.
Your weather should be perfect...never hot, but the best time of year for this part of the world.
