new york port
We are taking an 8 day caribbean cruise out of New York City. Carnival does not offer transfers in New York. I know we can catch a cab going to the pier, but how easy is it to get a cab BACK to the airport after the cruise. Should we make arrangements for a car service or just wing it? Hopefully no hurricane plays havoc with our cruise!

Although I've never cruised from NY, I've been on many cruises from other cities/countries and every time we disembarked, there was ALWAYS a long line of taxis waiting. I bet the cabbies in NY are just as savvy and they know when the ships will arrive.

I would arrange for a car service. Most passengers don't leave their cars at the NY pier, so the line for taxis is very long. Better to have a car pick you up. They'll be in the city waitng for you to disembark & then when you're outside you call them & tell them which spot you're in. Also , you'll know in advance how much it will cost. Sometimes the yellow cabs take "the long way." How far do you need to go?

I just got back from a cruise out of NY Port on Carnival and it was VERY easy to find a cab, they have people there giving directions and where to go to get a cab, there are even cab drivers walking around asking people if they need a cab!
