Anyone sailed during this time? We will hit ports from Villefrance to Istanbul with a scattering of Greek Islands.
I'm curious about the seas in May and also (of course) what to wear for comfort.

A friend of mine did the Windstar in May, Greek islands. She said the weather was a little cool for water activities, but otherwise quite nice. She thought the ship was extremely stable and smooth.

We did a Med cruise in early May and it was perfect. Not good swimming weather - but warm during the day, and just perfect at night. The water was wonderful and calm..... All the flowers were blooming everywhere - absolutely fabulous!

We did the Winsurf in Mid May from Rome to Nice...
the first 2 days out from Rome , it rained and was cool...umbrella weather...
the rest of the time, the weather was beautiful...........


Since you are doing France to Greece, you will some of the similar weather.

As far as comfort, that cruise line is elegant casual ) ie. polo shirt and khakis for men for dinner -and slax and silk shirt or sun dress for women at nite..NO TUXEDO or COCKTAIL dress are necessary ( unless you are going to Monte Carlo and will need a coat and tie to get into the main casino.)..

I agree with everyone else - the weather will be pleasant and warm in May and the crowds shouldn't be too bad because the schools aren't out for summer vacation until June.

Windstar is casually elegant and I tell my clients to dress in country club casual style. Of course, take shorts and good walking shoes, but also take nice casual pants (chinos), light sweaters, rain coat. Be prepared to dress conservatively and respectfully if you plan to visit any churches, cathedrals or other religious sites.

Actually we will be on the Galaxy for a back to back (Galveston to Instanbul and back to Rome) - I don't know how this was translated to the Windstar, but I would *love* to sail on the Windstart sometime!

Thanks for the reponses. Julia, what about mosques? I am thinking probably head coverings? Both men and women? shawl? Anyone know?

I was in Istanbul a few months ago on a business trip and was able to visit some of the mosques (the Blue Mosque, etc). They have scarves outside the door of the ones we went to that you can put on to go in (which we did), but when I got in there - alot of people didn't have head coverings on. I still felt better having it on, but they have boxes of them there - and you just put it in another box on the exit...
