Junior, We know your opinion of white jeans. They also happen to be a favorite of Anna Wintour, someone else who knows nothing about dressing well....

Seems to me there's one more component of this ....

When folks deliberately operate outside "the norm" (posted guidelines), its usually an attention-seeking maneuver.

We've all seen the females who dye their hair that shrieking fuchia-red color -- the guys who wear grungy pants hanging so low that their "reverse cleavage" shows -- the old women who priss down the grocery-store isles in exaggerated makeup and beach-bunny outfits -- the old men whose T-shirt stops short of covering their belly and reads "Real Men Do It Better".

It's reasonable to think heads will turn in a dining room when a pair of jeans (white or otherwise) goes strutting past.

I suspect that's the whole point of it.

So what's wrong with a trailer park ?

Why don't you just hang out in Florida instead of taking a cruise if you can't get dressed up twice during a one week cruise? There is no cocktail dress that is that uncomfortable, that I would not get into, so that I may look glamorous and elegant. Isn't that why people go on cruises for?

Acually I go on a cruise to relax, eat well, have my children entertained on their winter break by a great kid's program on a great cruiseline, get some beach time, sun, be pampered etc., not as an excuse to put on a cocktail dress, which I get plenty of opportunity to do at home. Nor do I view it as an opportunity to judge others by their dress.

I don't really care what anyone else wears, but I find it petty and pretentious that someone would deem me inferior by virtue of my clothing choices. Not to mention laughable.

Also Stephanie, we are talking about CASUAL night, not formal or semi formal night, so we will be dressing up several nights. With the new security and luggage restrictions it's just plain absurd to pack a huge wardrobe.

This amount of argument for a casual night? I;m new to this board and would hate what you would say about the formal night. I'm not into the latest fashions, but I don't see anything wrong with jeans on a CASUAL night.

As someone who buys clothes at Target (and not just underwear and socks), stop putting down cheaper priced clothes.

Sorry Charlie, that was a poor choice of words and every bit as tacky on my part as someone wearing shorts for dinner on a cruise.

Nina:

You don't have to bring everything and the kitchen sink to dress classy. I brought a pilot case and carry on for a week in FL and had neutral colored clothes and other clothes that would mix and match with the neutrals, along with 3 whole pair of shoes. If you go on a cruise you would only need a garment bag (for formal wear) and a pilot case to take all that you need.

Stephanie,

Thank you for that primer so that I too can "dress classy". I know I'll regret this, but what's a pilot case?

Nina:

A pilot case is about 14" x 23" piece of luggage that is larger than a carry on and you can bring it with you. Observe pilots and FA in airports, they use them as their luggage and travel light. You can get alot of stuff/clothes in them.
