How to get a good room?

This is our first cruise, so I appreciate all suggestions.
I booked an ocean view room (Norwegian Spirit to Caribbean from NYC)
This cruise is sold out, so no room was assigning during the booking.
Agent told me, that they would assign room during check –in.
How could we get good room without paying for upgrade: check in earlier, check- in later, tip person, who will be doing check –in, etc?
Thanks in advance,
Julia

Well, you can tip me and I'll tell you what to do. LOL. The thing is there nothing you can do. It is always random. At least you know you are guaranteed your category you're booked in, and may get a free upgrade if you're lucky. Check a couple of weeks before sail to see if the room is already assigned. If you find anything you don't like about it, ask your agent to change it and just keep your fingers crossed. It may or may not be possible. One time my agent did it for me when I found out the cabin was right above the theater.

They are called CABINS not ROOMS.
You will be on a SHIP not a BOAT.
Ships carry boats...as in lifeboats.

All cabins are assigned prior to check-in that morning. Don't expect to get an up-grade when you check in. This is not a hotel where there are a few extra accommodations. If the cruise is sold-out, then what you get is what you're stuck with.

Good luck with NCL.

Easy luv2fly...Julia said this is her first cruise. We all learn as we go.

Actually Julia, spur is correct, there is no sure way to get a good room or an upgrade at this point. And as spur pointed out, at a minimum you have a guarantee of the catagory you wanted which is ocean view.

Another thing to keep in mind is that unless you book a balcony, you mainly only use your room to change, shower and sleep in.

In short, go and enjoy your first cruise and if you get a free upgrade, consider it a nice bonus.

Hope you have a great time on your first cruise
