We just returned from a TA on the Oceania Insignia and loved it. This was our 16th cruise and first TA. We left from Barbados and ended in France with one stop in Madera. Insignia was awsome, food was a 10, along with the crew. We only had 160 people and only 75 cabins were booked. Everybody got bumped to a balcony and we were bumped to a penthouse with our own butler.

Oceania includes "free" airfare and a 2 for 1 special if you book early enough. Our trip included RT airfare from Sacramento and we paid just over $2000 pp.

We love our days at sea they are so relaxing. The open seating for dinner was great. Dining rooms open from 6:30 to 9:30 just show up and ask to sit with somebody or by yourself.

The only big risk is the weather. Since most repositioning cruises are at the end of a season you risk hitting cold weather.

We lucked out as we were laying out on deck up until the day before we docked in France.

I did find a little problem with motion the first couple of days after leaving Barbados, but Oceania ships are small (35,000 ton) so that is to be expected.

We loved everything about the trip and are already looking at something for April 2007.

I have been looking at Oceania Cruise Line 2 for 1 deals that are coming in my mail. We live in Pasadena, CA, not far from Sacramento. You say the two of you were able to cruise for approx $4,000? That's very good. My husband and I want to cruise to either Rome, Spain or the Greek Isles. Maybe I'll start searching now to see if I can get special, early-bird rates.

We are taking a 16 day Trans-atlantic from Rome to NYC, a big band dance cruise, beginning September 28 on the new Noordam. We are really looking forward to this cruise and can't imagine being bored on the days at sea, as there is so much do on board.

Robbia,
You may want to contact my Cruise Value Center agent Alex at [email protected]. I know some people on board already did. He's got great prices expecially on Oceania, and will take a good care of you. Tell him spur sent you.

I have booked a T/A cruise from Venice to Galveston, Texas Oct. 29-Nov. 16 on Splendor of the Seas. I am a woman in my early 60's and have traveled for the past 7 years to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii by myself and using AA Frequent Flyer miles. I can't find friends that will either spend their money or will use some other excuse not to book the flights and/or bus tours/cruises so I go alone and have no problems whatsoever. This is my first Transatlantic cruise and I think it will be a wonderful trip with stops (1 night each)in Dubrovnik, Sicily, 3 ports in Spain and the Canary Islands, 6 days at sea, Bahamas, Key West, one more day at sea and then Galveston. Looking forward to hearing from anyone regarding this, but can't wait until October.

We have taken several transatlantics. All of the on the Windstar or Windsurf. We like them very much for these reasons. It is very relaxing to be on the sea day after day, ship is very stable, get to know each and every one on board, lots of time to read, meditate, do hand work, play games, read, just enjoy being in a different world.... We usually then rent a car and tour Portugal, which is a wonderful climax to a wonderful 2 week boat float. By all means, do it. (p.s. there was no rough weather and we have done it both going to Europe and coming back from Europe, i.e., in Spring and Autumn). The Windsurf is our fav. ship. Nice cabins, good food, great crew, etc. However, if you are looking for entertainment, there isn't much, the casino is tiny, dress code very casual.
