Fort Lauderdale - Sheraton Clipper or Yankee Trader

We fly into Fort Lauderdale and stay overnight before beginning our cruise. I checked out several sites and the two Sheraton hotels sound like good options. Which one is better? Or is there a better hotel? We are wanting something reasonably priced but convenient to the airport and Port.

Also, we get in at about 7:30pm (likely 8:30 by the time we get out of the airport) and would like to see a little of Fort Lauderdale. I heard that there are water taxi's that take you around to restaurants, etc. Is this a good idea?

Thanks.

Just know these are both old hotels in decent shape, but not luxurious by any means. They are convenient to many eateries, etc., and the beach is right there as well.

You might try priceline.com. We got the Marriott Marina for $75 in January and it was just fine.......especially for that price, and 5 minutes from the cruise terminal.

The Marriott is much nice than the two Sheratons.

But if there are more than two of you in a room, Priceline is risky. You cannot chose the number of beds.

We stayed there also once for 2 nights. I remember thinking 2 nights was enough. I believe we stayed at the Clipper. It was located right on the beach. One was across the street, one on the beach. For one night it would be o.k. There is water taxi right across the street they are $5.00. Yes they take you around to various restaurants. They are quite slow.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate the replies. I like the beach idea so we will likely choose the hotel right on the beach. With a Sheraton hotel, we receive a discount using an entertainment book coupon.

The $5 water taxi sounds like a good deal. Thanks for the heads up on it's speed (or lack of it) since we do not want to miss our cruise ship.

The Sheraton Clipper has 2 buildings. 1 is diectly on the beach, and the other is in a tower across the street from the beach. If it matters to you, make sure you request the building directly on the beach.
