We purchase Access America. My husband visited the infirmary for a minor problem. Charge was $86. We filed with AA after we arrived home & were fully reimbursed within a couple of weeks.

rockymtgirl.......I would never cruise without insurance I dont care what anybody says....Get a hold of a copy of the current CondeNaste Traveller magazine and read "The Ombudsman" feature.It tells about a Texas couple who did NOT purchase insurance and their tale of woe....One feature I always without fail include isn the Medical Evacuation feature.In my experience, that feature doesnt seem to add a whole lot.But again, I wouold not be without it.Good for you for even considering it.You'll probably hear some folks who would never consider, extra expense, we are all healthy blah blah blah.Well, good for them! A good place to evaluate various policies is the insuremytrip.com web site. There's a chart showing the companies offering policies within the parameters that you select, and you can purchase through the site. Customer service is excellent if you have questions.

I would highly recommend getting insurance with a primary insurer rather than a secondary insurer (no middleman to go through, quicker reimbursement). For this reason, I prefer TravelEx.

But definitely check out insuremytrip.com for what fits your needs best.

Very good insurance is provided by ITravel Inc. It covers medical expenses, evacuation, lost or stolen luggage and more. Web site is www.itravelinsured.com. Price is age dependent and very reasonable for young and mid age people but can get costly for seniors.

One thing many older travelers (I have no idea as to your age) forget is that Medicare does not generally cover outside US - so most US citizens over age 65 need additional insurance for international travel.

I had a discussion last night with a couple who were not aware that in the event you DO need any sort of medical treatment during your cruise or other travels, you have to pay for those at time of service.Not like here, where you present your insurance card,pay the co-pay and away you go.Then when you get home, you file your claim and will get reimbursed.

For those who have Visa or Mastercard, go to their insurance information on line and read what you already have just by putting your trip on your charge card. After doing that I called the number printed there and purchased additional travel insurance that covered medical evacuation to a hospital at home, remains reclamation, 50,000 emergency pp, trip cancellation, lost luggage, etc, for $136.00 pp It gives such peace of mind to know that if you have an emergency, you have insurance that will cover bringing you home.

I could never quite understand his theory that $136 pp was outrageous,that he would NEVER buy insurance and his math: by not paying the insurance he could have enough for an entire cruise in NO TIME! And, he had KIDS!!!! My TA absoultely, 100% will NOT sell a cruise without the insurance.His agency had to shell out $1K to a woman who took her son on a ski trip in March.The kid got sick the first day.The agent handling the trip had NOT insisted on the insurance.The traveller blamed the agent, blah blah blah, short end the agent had to shell out the moolah from her own pocket.I always just include the cost of the insurance as an "itme" , no different from the port taxes.

Since we purchased insurance thru our Mastercard, the travel agency that we booked our recent cruise from made us sign a document stating that we refused to buy their insurance.

cd....My TA just figures it is not worth the commission, as they had to learn the hard way.Another important feature that most people overlook is the trip interruption.Cancellation is one thing, but like the woman on the ski trip,she had to change the plane tickets and the hotel wasnt willing to credit her for the nights she didnt stay.

insuremytrip.com doesn't actually sell insurance; that comes from the individual companies. After surveying the options on the insuremytrip.com site I opted to purchase a policy from TravelEx.

My husband and I had just left on vacation when my brother suddenly passed away. I don't like paying the extra 300-500 for extra insurance but I would never leave without it. The trip interruption plan paid for us to fly home and everything. I was a sad time but at least I was able to return and make his services.

My husband and I carry a travel medical insurance policy through American Express so I don't need to insure that portion of my trip, but I would like a policy just for the actual trip.

Is there such a thing?
