We stopped in Costa Maya last April. There was a huge Margaritaville when you got off the boat (you can dock there, no tenders); and we took a taxi into the beach area, where there were some restaurants & shops.

Sorry, never been to Guatemala.

We also went to the beach in Costa maya. It is an old town with dirt roads which is more than likely the way many tourist towns were before they were all built up. There was several massage booths set up right on the beach. Very reasonable and good. I had one it was a ridiculous price like $25.00 for 45 minutes. There were also some folks who went snorkelling with someone who had a boat and they said it was the best they ever had seen. I have never been to Guatemala. I would suggest going to the beach. Where the ship docks is a place built up just for ships and tourist. They had shopping restaurants and some shows. Have fun.

Been to Costa Maya. When you first get off the ship, there is a "fake" village created by the cruise lines. It has fake ruins, and lots of high-priced shops. Looks like Epcot Center! We took a cab to the beach too (don't know how to spell it, but it is pronouned Mock-A-Wall). Well worth the short and inexpensive ride. You can barter on everything. We picked up some great Tequilas there, too. One daughter got her entire head braided for $10. The other daughter had 3 braids done at the "Cruiseline Village" for $15! The beach is gorgeous!!! Never been to Guat.

Are there any beaches at Costa Maya that anyone knows of that offer from-the-beach snorkeling? We may be going there with kids.
The beach we went to there 2 years ago was filled with sea-grass - not even very good swimming.
