We had a couple on our cruise last week RCCL who were very familiar with this. What they do is pack and come to the cruise port and wait to see if the ship has an empty cabin. They said that they pay $50 a day per person. Sometimes they get on a ship, sometimes they don't. If they don't, they go back home and try the next ship.

Isn't this deal similar to the Disney deal given to Florida residents?

Actually AAFF works for the government so believe what he says, he is a long time member here. His comments surprised me because they are different now from what he has said in the past. He is a very nice person

So I haven't heard yet where someone has received terrific savings over regular reduced passenger rates as a Florida resident, any stories?

What? AAFF works for goverment? How would his boss like reding this post?
As for discounts: cruise lines run regional promotions every ones in a while, my guess is to attract more cruisers from far away states, not to please Florida residents. I've never seen such a discount for Texans departing from Houston or Galveston, and why would I? Texans make some 80-90% of these cruises anyway. Those perks that some see in advertisements are probably offered by local travel agencies.

Actually it's a private military security corp. We have a contract wih the US State Dept. I can't really get into details as to what I do, but it's mostly electronic surveillance. I get to visit many, many US intrests all over the world and work with government security/special ops agents. These people laugh at the circus at HS and their bright (NOT!) ideas. The only people that prevented any attacks so far are the people on the front lines, the ones that put their lives in danger on a daily basis and some real heroes that lost their lives. The only thing that HS is doing is eroding US citizen's rights, not preventing ANYTHING!

If somebody is buying into HS, then well.... I'll just better not say anything here as the comment may get me banned from Fodor's for attacking the intelligence of the posters that believe the agency is preventing anything. That's as far as I will go on this subject.

Anyway, having a fabulous time on Easter Island. What a mystical, enchanting place! Will report about my 9 days in Chile sometime next week. My month long trip is sadly coming to an end. I will be home next Saturday after visiting Lima and Machu Picchu, Peru for few days each.

I get New York residency rates all the time, I think that most states will apply to a residency rate occasionally, but states that actually have cruise ports in them get them more frequently.

I,too, have heard of very good last minute deals only available to FL residents, to fill the ships when they have space. But, I don't have first hand knowledge because I live in NY

I've also heard that on the Destiny (the ship I'm sailing in Sept), that alot of local from Puerto Rico can sail for rock bottom rates when they are trying to fill the ship. Anyone know about this?
