I was on the NCL Sky in May 2001 when it listed 8 degrees so can imagine how severe a 15 degree list must feel. Guess what movie theme song was playing throughout our ship shortly after the list?
In December of that same year, I was on the Sea Princess which was captained by Andy Proctor at that time (captain who's currently on Crown). We had a discussion about the NCL list, the cause of which was said to be an "autopilot malfunction". Captain Andy thought that wasn't possible and believed the NCL incident to be caused by human error instead. Thinking back to that conversation, it's somewhat eerie and ironic that this happened on his watch.

I was on the Crown Princess with my husband, sister in law and her husband.
I was on my balcony - starboard side - it was terrifying. I was thrown off my lounge chair. All you could hear was terrifying screams from all over the ship. It was tipping very slowly and then started to move quicker. I really thought we were going over. I believe it was more than 15 degrees list. We were on Deck 9 right above the life boats. The captain was definitely in a Panic. When we heard his voice we knew it was bad. He told us it was a rudder malfunction....then a computer error. Then told us we were continuing on to NY which really sent me into a panic. When he came on again within about 30 - 4o minutes he told us the cruise was terminated and we would be given full refunds - then I was convinced this was really a serious error. Maybe the Coast Guard - when they finally got thru to him - told him to turn around. It took us four hours to get back to Port Canaveral - he was going so slow - and obviously could not make any sharp turns. Never again. This was our third cruise and it was wonderful - but we really felt as though we were going over.

Margoula,
That certainly sounds like it was very frightening. Glad you & your family are OK.
We are taking our 3rd cruise in December - I love cruising but I've always been really afraid of the water.
Just curious - do you think you'll ever cruise again?
