T69. I got an email from Percy and I hope he enjoys that river cruise.

Me, I'm quiet today. Got a stomach flu. Losing it from both ends.

Cheers, Larry

Random rambling and reply to everyone's post.

Stewart ... Sawgrass Mill is a shopping mall ... LOL

You might want to consider Miami Zoo ... it's only gators at the Everglades.

Our first miss at Grand Cayman was January 2001, our second miss was November 2006. We finally made it on December 2010, but we tender into the alternate port facility which was a $5 cab ride away from George town. Still beats missing the port. While we were there, we took in the submarine ride which lasted about an hour. It wasn't $99 back then and DW liked it.

Beef serced at the MDR: most likely, you will typically see New York Steak (Strip-loin Sir-loin) or tenderloin on cruise ships. You maybe a rump roast or a leg at the buffet.

Joy, we have not booked yet, I am procrastinating. Got to do it tomorrow. I have to take a break from work and book this trip before the deal is gone. Some one told me about a 2 for 1 for Viking River cruise. 14 days in China for about $3000.

Glad to hear Percy in on the road again. Can't wait to read his TR, since this would be his overseas (Arizona doesn't count) trip without Vi.

Love Steak and Kidney Pie but like Milton Mowbray Pie as well.

Larry, too much information! You miss cruising so much that you are having a bout of Noro virus on your own!

I'm better today E and honestly it felt like the Noro which I contacted on the Constellation in 2011.

Stu thanks for the great info about beef.

Eschew….if you can get to Chestnut Hill (which is about as far as I will dare drive) I'd love to meet up with you when you come to visit relatives. Did you say approx. when your coming to the East Coast?

ParrotMom, late August, after a stop at upstate New York (Ithaca). Quincy and Braintree is south and you are west. Chestnut Hill is beautiful with lots of old estate homes. It's been a while since I am living on the west coast now.

Stewart -

I am taking the same cruise on the Equinox as you, but departing on 1/12/15. Not sure if anyone's recommended it yet, but signing up on your sailing's roll call over on cruisecritic.com might be something for you to consider - you could meet people on your sailing and perhaps share in shore excursions.

Didn't read the entire thread, but we were on the Century in February. We knew it was a small, older ship, but the itinerary was great.

The most disappointing parts of the cruise for us were a dearth of things to do onboard on sea days, and the indifferent attitude of some of the personnel. The Century is going to a different owner; not sure how that affects current crew.

Second disappointment, the length of time to tender to St. Barts.

We found the food to be OK in both Murano and MDR. Service, meh.

Doesn't deter us from Celebrity, just the Century

We just finished a cruise on the CCL Legend and overall had a good time. However it's an older ship with an outdated decor. We would not sail this ship again most probably but would go on CCL again, especially on one of their newer ships or perhaps the completely redesigned Destiny rechristened the Sunshine.

I would not go on an older X ship but thought the Equinox, a Solstice class ship was outstanding.

Good points mcheryl.

Like sarahharris818,
We were on the The Century Coastal May !2,with our 2 grandchildren aged 15&13. Embarking was smooth & quick. Cabin very clean ,though a little smaller than others we have had. service was excellent throughout the ship.

Our food was some of the best we have ever had ,The cheese board was large selection of regional French cheeses. We have dined in many restaurants in many countries. and have cruise many cruise lines , & find Celebrity to be one of the top of our list.

I just came across this review, and know my response is over a year after the fact. Having said that, some of the things you mention are subjective. That's not to say you didn't experience them and that you are wrong. It simply is what it is. However, as for the barf bags, really?! I think of it as the crew being proactive, so that passengers are able to have access to an alternate solution when they can't get to a washroom or cabin in time. As for the rough seas, me and my family have many cruises under our belt, including my parents. My mother in particular did not fair well in rough waters. It was her reality. It didn't mean she didn't enjoy cruising, it simply meant that she learned to adjust as best as she could under the circumstances, when they arose. One thing she learned was to minimize fluid intake and focus on solid foods during those times..the reason? Less sloshing in the digestive system. Just saying.

I admit that I am a little late getting in on this discussion. But, I want to respond to PleasantExperience.

First of all, welcome! It is always nice to have new people join our discussions. I hate to be the one to tell you, but Fodor's is not only a travel forum, but a social club. We even have GTGs (get togethers) around the world.

Some of us have been chatting on this forum for years. My point is that as we relate our travel experiences we get to know each other, hence the social aspect.

I have seen many people come and complain about cruises, flights, hotels, etc. and then never post any other travel information. I know they are venting. But the truth is that crap happens when traveling. I seem to have it happen on all of my travels. I have more horror stories than I can count on two hands. All the planning I do can not prevent them from happening. Lessons were learned. If sarahharris818 or any other traveler had perused this forum or any other travel forum they would have learned from our misadventures. The world is getting smaller due to travel and we as travelers are meeting people from other countries that have different attitudes and cultural standards. Travel, even cruising, has become an adventure.

After that long-winded response, I want to add that in all the cruises I have taken (well over 30 on several different cruise lines) I have yet to have a really good experience with anyone at guest relations on any ship.

Larry, where did that came from? Rascal? Me? Really!

BarbAnn, maybe set your expectation lower and you will be pleasantly surprised? Or maybe you just picked the wrong ship? If it was me, after a handful of consecutive bad experience, I would stay away.

As the saying goes: If you always do what you always done, you will always get what you've got. Expecting any different results is lunacy.
