Gary:

When life gives you lemons make lemonade or for us lemoncello. I got hold of the Princess recipe and actually got a batch ready to go any day.

Jacketwatch… just make the the lemoncello please.. Although I swear somebody gave a recipe on a board for making my own.. Shh.. don't tell anybody I'm hiding a bottle in the fridge right now. The problem is..now that I'm a widow…cruising especially is difficult having to pay the "single supplement" Have to admit I loved the Soltice and Equinox…haven't been on on the others of that class. Each of those ships had their own personality…can't remember which one, but one of those two had the happiest crew I had ever met. Now if I can just find another male cruising companion I might be all set.If your really lucky you will meet Merman (Gary) and his partner on day and they are the greatest.

Probably it was the Equinox.

Thats unfortunate about the single supplement PM. IS it like booking a double?

we did meet Sassafras and our late, great Nigel aka the dogster on the Connie in 2011 and had a memorable night dining at the Tuscan Grille. sass and her hubby are wonderful and most of us really miss the dogster.

Hopefully we can meet Gary one day too.

ParrotMom! haven't heard from you for a while. I remember your post about the snotty fellow passengers on board the Pacific Princess, of course, Mermen wouldn't be one of them.

We were on board the Pacific Princess after you did and cruised the East Med/Holyland on it. The ship is old and needed updating. Our cabin was fine but our friend had plumbing issues. After all, it was an old 30,000 tonne R class ship from the defunct Renaissance. The service was fine and the food was actually wonderful. Mind you, the Princess fleet's executive chef Alfredo Marzi was on board checking things out didn't hurt. We have met him on 3 separate occasions and actually took one his cooking class.

I am going to be back in the Boston area and visit my family this August. Have not been back for a couple years now. If time permits and you are up to it, I still owe you a coffee or a brew or two.

I love this quote: When life give you lemons, make limoncello! Much better than making lemonade.

Mermen, I appreciate your response and please don't interpret my all caps as yelling. I have felt bullied from my initial post. Every other comment has been very constructive and helpful but Larry's comments made me feel like he was suggesting I was a fake and a liar and I don't respond favorably to that. Even after Eschew explained that the fees were in fact real, I never received an apology.

ParrotMom, thank you for responding. I can appreciate that you've had both god and bad experiences and I appreciate your suggestion about healthier food served at Bleu. My husband and I went on the Epic a year ago and we were so spoiled with the food on that ship and all of the different types of specialty restaurant options (which were fantastic) that we really felt like the Century was a HUGE step down.

At some point in this thread someone mentioned that if you're an avid traveler you should have experienced losing your bags. Fortunately (knock on wood), that hasn't happened. Even on this cruise, they eventually found my luggage. Also it occurred to me that "avid traveler" is subjective. I consider myself an avid traveler because I go on 3 to 4 trips each year. For some of you, that might not be a lot of traveling and to others, it's a lot.

Also, I've been on about 7 or so cruises in my life and I never experienced this amount of chop or saw barf bags in the elevators. I guess that I've been lucky in that respect. I've experienced a rocky boat, but just not to this extent. Again, I'm not blaming Celebrity for this (that would be ridiculous), I'm just simply stating a fact.

Actually the lemoncello has been "marinating" for about at least 2 mos. now. The longer the better I was told by an Italian lady who makes it too so hey if thats good for her its good for me too. . Tomorrow I will strain out the rinds and mix it with sugar water. Its pretty easy to do really and is a good digestive as well. .

Cheers, Larry

Eschew…would you believe I just about finished renewing my almost outdated passport and must take it to the post office today.. Where do your relatives live in the Boston area? I'm not much of a driver as my insurance company could tell you.. Single Supplement means that I would have to pay for two fares, Yes, NCL does have accommodations for single travelerson certain ships, but I want to go on the ships I want to go on and I do not want to share a cabin with a stranger, most of my friends are not cruisers. Sarahharris818 I can tell you that on a cruise board I first met Merman and you would not want to meet a lovelier man and we even booked our Amazon cruise together..we were separate but together. Our relationship is at the point that we have "adopted' each other, even meeting when they cruised to Boston for a day. Merman is my rock and I adore him and his partner!! I would recommend that you give Celebrity, especially their newer class ships a try, yes, I do prefer smaller ships, but these ships are so special as are their crews. Hope he doesn't mind this story but their experiences were so negative on the Amazon Princess ship that when they were waiting for their flight home…. they called and booked a cruise immediately on a Celebrity ship.. The question is also.. would i go back on ships that have disappointed me…maybe..depends on where they are going and who I could go with. So, I say to you…try Celebrity once more with an open mind… I would.

PM. I was wondering if the single supp. was basically the full two person price. Wow, thats a lot.

It would be nice for some perks with that like some OBC or waiving the per diem tips. I don't suppose they do that.

Since I prefer an outside/balcony etc. the single supplement would be very high and a bit unaffordable for me….unless I hit the jackpot… then again I would have tp play wouldn't I….lol

Without mentioning names on our Princess Board I ran across a woman who was so anti-anything but Princess and no amount of discussion helped. A friend who is a Princess cruiser ran across this woman on board her last cruise and said she actually was blogging things that were NOT true!! She loved holding court…My comments on her next cruise about blogging continually got me tossed off the board for life…lol I seriously believe that there are certain people who get extra perks for talking about their favorite line and I'm not alone. I try not to be sarcastic or put down other people, but I believe that many of us are extremely loyal to our line whether it's the perks, service, food or the ship.

That is true. Try posting anything neg. about Celebrity on cruise critic. You'll end up on a spit. . We have cruised X, Carnival, RCI and Princess and all have good though overall we give the nod to X. I do like Royals ship designs the best, at least from the Voyager class moving forward but X has better food and service IMO .
We R on Carnival Legend later this month so we will see.
Cheers, Larry

LOL, too true, Larry. I remember being on the Princess roll call board with Parrot Mom and boy, did we stir the hornets nest a time or two...LOL. It seems the cruise industry has done well developing their tried and true loyal fans.
BTW, a shot glass of Limóncello sounds excellent about now...now that I am into my Monday full swing!

Larry, I had to pull my 2013 calendar and we actually set sail from Alaska on September 21. We were in Muroran, Japan on September 29. The weather was beautiful and amazing. The seas were very rough in the Bering Straights and for a time in the Yellow Sea. The locals in Japan were friendly and hospitable. In Sapporo, they were having "Oktoberfest". It made me and Rowell smile to see them dressed in their frocks and shorts with suspenders, caps with feathers...just as is done in Austria or Germany. Very fun. I think it was one of the few ports we actually felt incredibly safe, everywhere we went. Cannot say enough good about it, and only wish we had more ports in Japan. Would like to go to Hokaido (sp?) some day. Vladivovstok was OK...interesting to see the Siberian train station, etc.

Lastly, yes, Parrot Mom is a hoot to travel with and hopefully we can all share a meal, cruise or glass of your Limóncello some day!

Thanks for digging that up Gary. I checked the route map and we will be hugging the coast along the Pacific, then to the Sea of Okhotsk and then to whatever sea lies between the japanese island we will be touring and Russia so hopefully the seas will be calmer. I think all the Japanese ports are on one island IIRC. Ill try to pull up a route map.

My wife hinted she wants a dish called biryani so I found a simple recipe and I am about to give that a go. Wow some recipes for this are complicated, like a traditional mole sauce. I hope I can get to the lemoncello. I think so.

Cheers, Larry. There's cooking to do!! .

The Princess link did not work but the above shows it pretty well. You start from Yokohama, go north go west to Russia in the Sea of japan, then back to Yokohama.

You started with "my husband and I are avid travelers" that suggest experience, and you put medications in a checked suitcase, not in the carry-on?

Sorry, I don't even want to read any more.
